Optimal Character Learning Order (OCLO)
Updated over a week ago

The Mandarin Blueprint method is different from anything you've tried before to learn Chinese. There are literally about nine reasons for this, but if we had to boil it down to the most crucial factor, it has to be our Optimal Character Learning Order or OCLO.

What is OCLO?

OCLO is the no wrong turns secret sauce of Mandarin Chinese. Nothing will de-motivate you faster than the realization that you've been following the wrong path or wasting time on irrelevant information.

Mandarin may be a higher mountain to climb than other languages, but if you aren't making any wrong turns, you'll reach the summit in the most efficient way possible.

Chinese is intimidating at the beginning. Not only do you need to learn 500 characters to reach 80% acquisition by frequency and 3000 for all characters used in day-to-day life, but you must also know which characters to learn first.

Why OCLO is tricky to create?

In the beginning, we had to consider the following:

  • Which character have shared components?

  • Of those characters, which ones appear in the most words?

  • What's the frequency of those components, characters and words? Is it frequent in spoken Chinese, written Chinese or both?

  • What are the most common grammar structures and do they contain essential characters?

OCLO ensures that every character you learn is of utmost relevance not only to the Chinese language itself but also what you've already learned. Everything builds off to your sphere of knowledge.

How does OCLO build on what you already know to learn Chinese?

If you learn a new component, you see it combines with components you already know. Are you learning a new character? You better believe you already know the components.

Learn Chinese using the Optimal Character Learning Order (OCLO)

How about a new word? Couldn't be easier to learn, because you've already mastered the two or more characters in the world. Grammar? Chinese grammar is easy, with the eensy-weensy caveat that you already know characters. A huge caveat without OCLO is a non-issue with it.

OCLO simplifies the hardest aspect of how to learn Chinese.

The only critical element of Chinese that makes it longer to learn than other languages is the characters. You can't ready anything without them, and reading is the fastest way to acquire language. Without OCLO, learning even simple grammar is a fog of confusion and running to the dictionary.

A cheat code to learn Chinese

With OCLO, not knowing the characters in a sentence is no longer an issue. On the contrary, you only see the characters and words you've already learned so that you aren't wasting time - no need for dictionaries, no backtracking, and most importantly no wrong turns. You get to the summit as quickly as possible. It's still a mountain, but the path is paved, the map is detailed, and your compass is pointing north.

OCLO is a patent-pending sequence we devised based on analysis of billions of Chinese characters that systemizes your journey to literacy and frequency completely. at every layer of the Chinese language.

Currently, OCLO extends to all known characters components over 1,500 characters unlocking 4,000 common words with 7,000+ sentences and over 100 longer-form pieces of content. All of this cover over 94% of the Mandarin language and is presented to you in 4,200 lessons in a step-by-step video curriculum. Here's how it works:

Phase : Components Unlocking Characters

We start by introducing common components to you that are simple and easy to memorize. As you build up your components, you will chunk them together into common characters. As your database of components develops, you will be able to unlock more and more characters.

The Hanzi Movie methods is our system of visualization that allows you to learn how to read, write and pronounce any character or component in just a few seconds. We will teach you how to use this method during the first part of the course.

Phase : Characters Unlocking Words

Not long after that, you will begin to unlock new compound words that are you guessed it, not only very high frequency but also made up only of characters you have learned at that point.

You will learn how to create incredible personal and vivid mnemonic links to new words by associating them with your own life experience. This is all enhanced by awesome flashcards with images and audio.

Phase : Words unlocking content

As you continue to build your foundation of common components, characters and words, you will start to see example sentences and longer-form content made up of words you already know. This is where you build a much deeper understanding of how Mandarin words are used in context.
