According to research by the American College of Sports Medicine, the risk of developing heat illness while exercising is high when the temperature exceeds 85 degrees Fahrenheit so take precautionary measures to keep your participants safe.

Pay attention to the humidity factor to consider the comfort level of your participants. Be sure to know the warning signs associated with heat illness and dehydration to keep your kids safe.

Ultimately follow the guidelines of your school or community organization.

STAY HYDRATED

Drink water before, during, and after moving outdoors.

TAKE BREAKS

Find some share to allow your kids to catch their breath.

SUN PROTECTION

If outdoors for a while, wear sunscreen and light-colored clothing to protect your skin and keep you cooler.

RUNNING GAMES

If it's too hot outside, play indoor running games to allow kids to earn miles. Remember, 20 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) equals 1 Marathon Kids mile.
