How to start Marro when your cat is used to dry food

Updated over a month ago

We know cats can be a little particular when it comes to food, especially if they’re used to dry kibble. But with a little patience and some clever tricks, you’ll soon have them loving their Fresh Marro meals. Here are our top tips for making the switch:

Start small and side-by-side

Put a spoonful of Marro in a separate bowl or saucer next to their usual dry food. Let them get curious at their own pace - cats like to sniff things out! Don’t worry if they don’t dive in straight away. We recently ran a fussy eating study and found that most cats transitioning from dry food started eating Marro within the first three days. Persistence is key.

Try Chicken first

Our chicken recipe is by far the most popular, and it’s super gentle on the tummy, making it perfect for a first taste. Once they’ve warmed up to it, you can introduce our other recipes, but starting with chicken sets them up for success.

Warm it up

Cats love their food warm - it mimics the temperature of fresh prey (not to get too wild about it). Pop Marro in the microwave for a few seconds, or put the sealed pouch into warm water for 10 minutes to warm it gently to room temperature. Be sure to stir it to avoid any hot spots before serving.

Be Patient and Encouraging

Cats have their own schedules. Even if it takes a few days (or weeks), keep offering Marro alongside their dry food. They'll soon realise what they've been missing and tuck straight in!

You've made a great decision in switching your cat to Fresh food like Marro. Because of the human quality ingredients and the way we gently cook and portion our meals, cats can absorb more of the nutrients, which means you may notice health benefits like a shiny glossy coat, improved gut health (less smelly poos), more energy, and easier weight management. Definitely worth sticking with.
