Switching to a Fresh diet can bring a host of benefits to your senior cat, from improved digestion to a boost in overall vitality. But as cats grow older, their systems can become more sensitive to change. That’s why a slow transition is key.
Here’s how to help your cat settle into their new Marro meals with ease.
WHY TAKE IT SLOW?
From around 12 years of age, cats enter their senior years. At this stage, even small changes in their environment, diet, or routine can feel like a big deal. Their bodies and behaviours become more sensitive, and they may need extra time to adapt. A slow transition helps ease them into something new, while giving you time to observe how they’re getting on.
THE 7-10 DAY TRANSITION PLAN
To give your cat the best experience, we recommend easing into Marro over the course of 7 to 10 days. Here's a simple step-by-step:
Days 1–3:
Start by serving small spoonful of warmed Succulent Chicken on a clean plate. Whilst serving, remove any of their usual food and treats - this helps to keep them focused on Marro. If after 20 minutes your cat hasn't tried it, don't worry. This is normal. Just clear it away, offer their usual food again, and try again tomorrow. It's common for cats to take up to 3 days to give something new a try - patience and consistency is key!
Days 4–7:
Increase the amount of Marro to 2-3 small spoonfuls. Stick with Succulent Chicken, and continue warming it slightly, as older cats often respond better to food that’s closer to room temperature (or mouse body temperature!).
Day 8+:
If everything is going down well (and you've not noticed any unexpected changes) you can increase your elderly cat's portion to their full recommended daily amount of Marro. You can also start to introduce some of the other recipes.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
During the transition, it’s good to keep an eye on how your cat is responding. Things to look out for include:
Changes in appetite
Poo consistency (looser or firmer than normal)
Shifts in behaviour or energy levels
Litter tray habits (going more/less frequently)
These can be part of the adjustment process. But if anything seems unusual or lasts more than a few days, please get in touch.
