What documents do I need to support a car insurance claim?

Providing the correct documents helps us process your claim faster and ensures there are no unnecessary delays.


Required documents

1. Driving licence summary (DLS)

2. MOT certificate

  • Confirms the roadworthiness of your vehicle.

  • Should be up to date and valid at the time of the incident.

3. Vehicle logbook (V5C)

  • Proves ownership and vehicle details

  • Ensure it's in your name and registered address matches your policy.

4. Crime reference number (if applicable)

  • Required for claims involving theft, attempted theft, or vandalism

  • Obtain from the police when reporting the incident

Optional but helpful documents

  • Photos of the damage and accident scene

  • Dashcam footage (if available)

  • Repair estimates (if you used your own garage)


When to send documents

Send these as early as possible, ideally within 48 hours of making your claim. Upload them via your Marshmallow account or send directly to your claims handler.
