What happens to my vehicle after an accident abroad?

This article is for Marshmallow policyholders whose vehicle has been damaged while outside the UK.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Once you've reported the accident, we’ll work with you to manage the repair process. What happens next depends on when the repairs can be finished.

If your vehicle can be repaired before you return to the UK

  • We’ll arrange for the repairs to be done in the country you’re visiting

  • You won’t receive a courtesy car from Marshmallow

  • Your travel insurance may help cover car hire if needed—please check your policy

If repairs won't be completed before you return

  • We’ll arrange to bring your vehicle back to the UK (as long as it’s economically viable)

  • Once home, repairs will be carried out by one of our approved repairers

  • You’ll receive a courtesy car in the UK while your vehicle is being repaired

What Marshmallow will cover

If you have comprehensive cover for driving abroad, we’ll cover:

  • Reasonable delivery costs to get your vehicle to you after repairs abroad

  • Delivery to your UK address if the damage can’t be repaired before your return

  • The cost of any foreign customs duty if damage prevents the vehicle from returning to the UK
