Can I make a claim after my policy has been cancelled?
No. Once your car insurance policy has been cancelled, it no longer provides cover. This means that you cannot make a new claim for any incident that happens after the cancellation date.
If an incident happened before your policy ended and is reported within the correct timeframe, we may still review it. For example, accident claims must usually be reported within 48 hours of the incident.
What happens to a claim if my policy has already been cancelled?
If the incident occurred while your policy was active, we’ll still assess your claim even if you’ve cancelled your policy in the meantime.
Here’s what matters:
The incident must have happened during your cover period.
You must provide all required documents.
You must not have broken any policy rules before it ended.
If your claim is accepted and results in a payout (like a total loss), you’ll still owe the full premium for the year, even if you cancelled the policy during that time.
What are the consequences of making a claim after cancellation?
If the incident occurred after your policy ended, your claim will be rejected. That’s because you no longer have cover and:
You’ll need to pay any costs yourself (repairs, third-party damage, etc.).
You may be driving uninsured if you haven’t arranged new cover.
Always check the date your cancellation took effect to be sure of your cover status.
