Do I Need the Windscreen Protection Add-On?

This article is for: Drivers considering additional cover at the time of buying a Marshmallow car insurance policy.

Updated this week

What is the windscreen protection add-on?

Windscreen protection is an optional add-on that covers the cost of repairing or replacing damaged windscreens or windows on your vehicle.

Which Marshmallow plans include windscreen cover automatically?

The following plans include windscreen protection as standard, so you do not need to purchase it separately:

  • Marshmallow Original

  • Marshmallow Plus

You’re already covered for glass repairs and replacements, including recalibration, provided you use our approved repairers.

Which plans need the add-on?

If you choose either of the following plans, windscreen protection is not included by default:

  • Marshmallow Lightest

  • Marshmallow Essential

To be covered for glass damage on these plans, you must add windscreen protection during the quote process. This is the only time you can add it—it cannot be added later or at renewal.

How much does it cost?

You can add the windscreen cover for:

  • £34.99 annually, or

  • £2.92 per month

What does the add-on cover?

If you’ve purchased this add-on (or have a plan that includes it), we’ll cover:

  • Windscreen and window repair

  • Windscreen and window replacement

  • Recalibration services for ADAS-equipped vehicles

  • Up to two claims per policy year

  • No impact on your No Claims Discount when using approved repairers

Excess amounts:

  • £115 for replacements

  • £25 for repairs

If you don’t use our approved repairer, cover is limited to £115 for the whole claim.

What types of glass are not covered?

Windscreen protection does not include:

  • Sunroofs or panoramic roofs

  • Glass roofs

  • Lights or reflectors

  • Folding rear windscreen assemblies

  • Mechanical window components

How do I claim?

  1. Call the 24-hour Claims Helpline: 0800 060 8622

  2. We’ll refer you to an approved repairer

  3. You’ll pay the applicable excess and get back on the road quickly
