What should I do if I have two insurance policies for the same car?

For customers who have insured twice for the same vehicle – whether both policies are with Marshmallow, or one is with another insurer.

Updated this week

What is dual insurance?

Dual insurance means you have more than one active policy covering the same car. It might happen if:

  • You accidentally renew a policy and then take out a new one.

  • You’ve bought two Marshmallow policies for the same car.

  • You changed insurer but didn’t cancel the first policy.

Is dual insurance a problem?

It’s not illegal, but it’s usually unnecessary and can mean you're paying more than you need to. If you make a claim, having more than one insurer can also make things more complicated.

Can I cancel one of the policies?

Yes, once you’re sure you don’t need both, you can cancel the one you no longer want. If either of the policies is with Marshmallow, we can guide you through the steps to cancel.

Not sure which Marshmallow policy to keep?

If both policies are with us, we’ll help you figure out which one makes more sense to keep based on your dates and cover. Just speak to our customer support team.
