Why is it important for your V5 and policy details to match?
At Marshmallow, we rely on the V5 document (Vehicle Logbook) to confirm:
Who the registered keeper of the vehicle is
That the policyholder has a valid connection to the vehicle (known as insurable interest)
That your policy details are accurate and reflect the current situation
If the V5 details don’t match the information on your policy, it may affect your cover.
What should I do if the V5 shows someone else as the keeper?
We understand that there can be valid reasons why the V5 might be in another person’s name. Here’s how we assess it:
We can accept the V5 if it’s in the name of:
You, the policyholder
Your spouse, civil partner, or cohabiting partner
Your parent, but only if you both live at the same address
A vehicle leasing company (12-month minimum lease)
Your employer, provided you're not in the healthcare or fast food industries
We may decline if the V5 is in the name of:
A friend, sibling, or other relative
A parent who does not live at the same address as you
A company that is not owned by you or your partner
How can I fix a mismatch?
If your V5 doesn’t match your policy:
Speak to our customer support team and they may direct you to apply to the DVLA to transfer the vehicle into an acceptable name.
