Key rules to follow
When driving with a UK provisional licence, you must:
Be supervised at all times by someone who:
Is at least 21 years old
Has held a full driving licence for at least 3 years (UK, EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein)
Is qualified to drive the same type of vehicle
Display L plates clearly on the front and back of your car
Not drive on motorways unless you're with a qualified driving instructor in a dual-control car
Can I take driving lessons or a test?
Yes. You can:
Use your own vehicle for driving lessons if it’s unmodified
Take your driving test in your own car (as long as it meets DVSA rules)
