Why this matters
Some medical conditions can affect your ability to drive safely. If you have one of these conditions, the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) requires you to let them know. We also need to be aware so we can make sure your insurance remains valid and suitable for your needs.
Step 1: Check if your condition is DVLA-notifiable
Not every medical condition needs to be reported. The DVLA provides an official list of conditions that drivers must declare.
If your condition is not on the list, you don’t need to take any further action.
Step 2: Tell us if your condition is on the DVLA list
If your condition is listed as DVLA-notifiable:
Let us know so we can make note on your policy.
We’ll only record this information with your explicit consent, as it is considered sensitive personal data under UK GDPR.
Step 3: How we handle your information
When you share a DVLA-notifiable condition with us:
We’ll confirm with you that it’s on the DVLA list.
With your permission, we’ll add a secure note to your policy.
Your information is handled with extra protection because medical data is classed as Special Category Data under data protection laws.
Step 4: Support if your condition makes things harder
If your condition makes it more difficult to manage your policy or driving:
We may mark your profile so that we can offer extra support when needed.
This helps us make your experience easier and ensures you get the right level of care.
