How do I report a car accident through the Marshmallow app?

This article is for Marshmallow policyholders who want to report a car accident using the incident report feature in the Marshmallow app.

If you've just been in a car accident, make sure you and anyone else involved are safe before you start your report. Reporting through the app is the quickest way to get your claim started.

Starting your report

  1. Open the Marshmallow app.

  2. Tap Report incident — either from your policy card on the dashboard, or from the Claims tab.

  3. Choose "I've been in a car accident" as the incident type.

If your vehicle isn't safe to drive, let us know when asked — we'll tell you to call us instead so we can arrange support.

What you'll need to tell us

  • What happened, in your own words. If you leave out key details, we may ask a few follow-up questions to help make sure your report is clear and complete.

  • Details of any damage to your vehicle.

  • Whether you're happy for us to use one of our approved repairers.

You can complete the sections of the report in any order. Once you mark a section as complete, you won't be able to go back and change your answers in it, so it's worth checking each section carefully before moving on.

Adding other people involved

  • Other people or vehicles involved: add as many as you need — this can include other drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, or property and animals. If you don't have someone's contact details, you can still continue without them.

  • Passengers: add everyone who was in your vehicle, even if nobody was injured. There's no limit to how many you can add.

  • Evidence: you can add photos, videos, or witness details if you have them, but you don't need any of this to submit your report.

Saving your progress

If you need to stop partway through, you can save and exit, then pick up your draft later from the Claims tab. Your draft is available for 7 days before it's automatically deleted, and we'll send you reminders to finish it. You can only have one draft report per policy at a time.

Submitting your report

Before you submit, we'll ask you to check some details we already hold about you and your policy. If anything has changed, you can tell us — this won't stop you from submitting your report.

Once you've submitted, depending on the details of your accident, we may offer you the option to be referred to a legal services partner who can help you recover costs from the other driver's insurer if the accident wasn't your fault. You can choose this option, or continue with your claim on your Marshmallow policy instead.

Key takeaway: Reporting your accident in the app is the quickest way to start your claim. You can complete it in stages, and you don't need every piece of evidence to hand before you submit.
