How do I report an accident for my claim?

This article is for Marshmallow policyholders who need to report a claim following an accident, theft, or other incident.

What to do immediately after an accident

Follow these steps to stay safe and help us support you.

1. Stop your vehicle

It is a legal requirement to stop if:

  • Anyone is injured

  • There is damage to another vehicle, animal, or property

2. Get to safety

If you are on a motorway or busy road:

  • Leave your vehicle (if it is safe to do so)

  • Move to a safe location away from traffic

3. Call emergency services

  • Dial 999 if someone is injured

  • Request police or ambulance support as needed

4. Gather important information

Collect the following details:

  • Vehicle registration numbers

  • Names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails of all drivers

  • Passenger and injury details

  • Witness contact information

Take clear photos of the scene:

  • Vehicle positions and visible damage

  • Road markings, traffic signs, or skid marks

5. Do not admit fault

  • Avoid accepting responsibility, verbally or in writing

  • Let us handle communication with the other party

How to report your accident

There are two ways to report a car accident to us:

  • In the Marshmallow app – tap Report incident from your policy card or the Claims tab, then choose "I've been in a car accident." This is the quickest way to get your claim started.

  • By phone – call our 24-hour Claims Helpline: 0800 060 8622. Please note this number is only for making a new claim. It is not a general contact or customer service number for Marshmallow.

Be ready to share:

  • Your Marshmallow policy number

  • Date, time, and location of the incident

  • Description of what happened

  • Details of all parties involved

  • Any photos or evidence you've collected
