What is Motor Legal Protection?

Motor Legal Protection covers legal costs and similar expenses you might face after an accident, or costs relating to defending your rights in court if you’re faced with a motoring conviction.

You can add Motor Legal Protection when you first sign up to a Marshmallow policy. If you haven’t bought your policy yet, your Motor Legal Protection will be provided by WINN Solicitors. If you already have it, it will be provided by either WINN Solicitors or Lawshield. It will tell you which one on your policy document.

What does Motor Legal Protection cover?

  • Legal costs up to £100,000 after a non-fault accident to recover damages from a third-party, arising from personal injury or losses not covered by your standard policy.

  • Legal costs for Motor Prosecution Defence, which means you can claim for legal defence if you’re accused of a motoring offence (as long as you have a reasonable chance of winning your case).

If you haven’t bought your policy yet, your Motor Legal Protection will be managed by WINN Solicitors, which also includes cover for third-party costs and legal issues arising from vehicle identity theft. You’ll be able to check a sample policy before you buy.

Who is covered?

Motor Legal Protection covers the main policyholder and any additional drivers on the policy; whoever is driving at the time of the incident.

How do I make a claim?

If your Motor Legal Protection cover is with Lawshield, call them directly on 0333 043 3790.

If your Motor Legal Protection cover is with Winn Solicitors, call 0333 222 5804.

Legal experts will be able to help you figure out what to do next.

How can I add Motor Legal Protection to my policy?

If you choose a Marshmallow Plus plan, it’s already included.

Otherwise, you’ll be given the option to add it before you pay.

If you already have an existing policy with us, we currently can’t add this on for you. If you have any questions about this, please click on the Get more help option to chat with a member of our customer support team.
