Changing the start date of your quote
If you haven't yet bought insurance with us, you can choose the start date of your policy when you get a quote. You can even get a quote for as soon as the current day.
You won't be able to change the start date of a saved quote. If your quote has the wrong start date, get a new quote for the correct start date through our website.
Please note: If we’ve asked you to complete an ID check, your policy will only start once you’ve successfully completed it.
Changing the start date of your insurance policy
We can't change the start date of a policy once it's already been set up.
Temporary Cover
Some customers may buy temporary cover if they need insurance before their policy start date. We don't offer this at Marshmallow, but there are other insurers on the market who do.
Cancelling your policy
The other option would be to cancel your policy with us and get a new quote with the correct start date. Here’s our help article about cancelling your policy.
If your policy started less than 14 days ago, you will be charged a £30 admin fee to cancel your policy. There is also a £30 admin fee for cancelling your policy before it started.
If you cancel your policy after the 14 days, then the fee will depend on your plan:
If you are on a Lightest plan, your cancellation fee will be £125
If you are on an Essential plan, your cancellation fee will be £100
If you are on an Original plan, your cancellation fee will be £75
If you are on a Plus plan, your cancellation fee will be £60
The start date can have a big impact on the price of your insurance. The price of your new policy may be different to the price of your current policy.
