What should I do if I have an accident while driving abroad?

This article is for Marshmallow policyholders driving outside the UK.

If you’ve had an accident while abroad, it’s really important to let us know—even if no one is planning to make a claim. Here's how to get help and what to expect.

How to report the accident

You must tell us within 48 hours of the accident.

You can report the accident in two ways:

  • In the app: Tap Report an incident

  • By phone: Call our 24-hour Claims Line on 0800 060 8622

This number is for reporting claims only. If you have other questions about your policy, use our Live Chat in the app or on our website.

Where did the accident happen?

Please have the following information ready when reporting your accident:

  • The country where the accident happened

  • The dates you’ve been abroad (start and end of your trip)

  • Whether you told us in advance that you’d be driving abroad

  • The reason for your travel (cover is only valid for social, domestic and pleasure use—not business)

Make sure your trip fits within the time limits of your plan:

  • Lightest: 30 days of Third Party Only (TPO) cover in the EU

  • Essential, Original or Plus: 90 days of TPO cover in the EU

If you've purchased comprehensive cover for abroad, we can cover damage to your own vehicle too.
