Re-Entry to Impacted Areas FAQs
Updated over a month ago

My property is in a zone labeled as “Local Access Only” on the Re-Entry Zones map (in yellow). Do I need a Re-Entry Vehicle Pass?

Yes. All residential zones listed as "Local Access Only" are local access only from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily for residents with a Re-Entry Vehicle Pass and their ID or contractors with a Contractor Placard.

My property is in a zone labeled as “Open” on the Re-Entry Zones map (in green). Do I need a Re-Entry Vehicle Pass?

No. As each zone reopens following the completion of debris clearing in the area, security checkpoints will be relocated to other areas within the Lahaina Impact Zone. With the reopening of these zones, health and safety concerns have been addressed, and the affected areas have been cleared. As a result, the County of Maui no longer has legal justification to restrict access to public roads.

As zones reopen, what measures are being taken regarding security in those zones?

The Maui Police Department (MPD) has increased patrols in reopened areas to ensure safety and provide support as the community adjusts to the reopening.

Throughout this transition period, the County encourages neighborhoods to build connections and explore the establishment of neighborhood watch programs to enhance community safety. While community initiatives are valuable, homeowners remain responsible for the security of their own property.

For any public safety or public health concerns, or to report a crime, please contact the MPD non-emergency line at (808) 244-6400. In case of emergencies, dial 9-1-1.

How do I find out if the status of my zone has changed?

Updates to zone designations are announced by the County and will be posted on the Maui Recovers News page (link), as well as updated on the Re-entry Zones map.
