Overview
On July 1st, 2023 Google sunset Universal Analytics and replaced it with Google Analytics 4 (GA4). Maxanet's backend has been updated to be GA4-friendly, but each client must follow Google's setup guide and paste their own GA4 tracking snippet into Maxanet to start tracking pageviews on their public auction site. This article explains where to get the GA4 snippet from Google and where to paste it in your Maxanet Admin panel.
Background: why Universal Analytics stopped working
Google retired Universal Analytics on July 1st, 2023 and migrated everyone to Google Analytics 4 (GA4). You can read Google's official announcement here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/11583528?hl=en. If your Maxanet site was previously tracking pageviews through the old GA tracking ID field, those pageviews stopped recording on July 1st, 2023 — you need to migrate to the new Google Tag Configuration field.
How to get your GA4 snippet from Google
Follow Google's manual install guide at https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/9744165 up through step #7. At step #7, Google displays a snippet of code — copy this entire snippet to your clipboard. This is the GA4 global site tag that you will paste into Maxanet in the next step.
How to paste the GA4 snippet into Maxanet
In your Maxanet Admin panel, go to Admin → Go To Admin → Preferences → Google Tag Configuration and click the Add button. Paste the GA4 snippet you copied from Google into the Google Tag Configuration input box and save. From that point on, Maxanet injects your GA4 tag into every public auction page, and GA4 starts recording pageviews and events in your Google Analytics dashboard.
Important: use Google Tag Configuration, not the old GA tracking ID
The Preferences page still shows the old GA tracking ID field (marked with a red arrow in the screenshot) for backwards compatibility, but that field is no longer functional — Universal Analytics is gone. Use the new Google Tag Configuration field (marked with a green arrow) for GA4 tracking going forward.

Common questions
Is the old GA tracking ID field still used for anything?
No. Universal Analytics stopped recording pageviews on July 1, 2023. The field is left in the Maxanet UI only for historical reference — paste your GA4 snippet into the new Google Tag Configuration field instead.
Will GA4 backfill pageviews from before I set it up?
No. GA4 only starts tracking from the moment you paste the snippet. Pageviews that happened before setup are not retroactively recorded.
I pasted the snippet but GA4 still shows no pageviews — what do I check?
