Recently, one of the MedcoVet Partners shared that his client found a “similar device to the Luma on Amazon for much less”. Here is a quick comparison of the two products:

First, it’s not a bad looking device. Cool display, and quality pictures. The key difference between this device and MedcoVet is a response written by the seller:

Question:

The advertising stated this device could be used on pets, but no instructions for pets were included.

How long should it be used in an area on a pet?

Answer:
The optimal time is 15-25 minutes depending on the pet's reaction.

The time per area for MedcoVet is about 3-5 minutes. It is nearly impossible to get a pet to sit for 25 min let alone treat multiple areas. This also ignores the fact that they have no instructions for pet use. Not great.

The question is “How can MedcoVet offer so much lower treatment times than this device?”

Here’s why:

  1. The power from MedcoVet is about 3x this device (at least the infrared, which penetrates to the target tissues). To start with, MedcoVet just has more power and a bigger infrared treatment area. Also, they report the maximum potential of the device, not what is actually output (maximum power usually overheats the device).

  2. From the picture above, most of the light is lost in the fur. MedcoVet has a comb that gets through the fur. Easily, 80% of light is lost in the fur. 100% is lost if you follow their instructions and hold the device 5 inches away from the fur.

  3. This company doesn’t know much about how to treat animals (or humans). They built a device but haven’t spent time and money to understand how this impacts the body.
