Recurring payments can be ongoing forever, such as a monthly membership, or they can be limited to a set number of times, such as a payment plan for a Product.
Here's how to set them up easily and quickly.
Edit The Product
Open the Product where you'd like to setup Recurring Payments and scroll down to the Sign Up Options block (click Modules and Product Settings once to minimize them).
Add A New Payment Option
Under the Sign Up Options, click the "Add Payment Option" link.
Give your new payment option a name that will be simple and clear for your customers to understand.
Set The Payment Interval
Now click into the "Type" field and select the type of recurring payments you wish to offer. Your choices are Weekly, Monthly or Yearly.
As soon as you select one of the Recurring options, you'll see several new fields open up where you can customize the payments.
Setting Up Monthly Memberships
To create a monthly subscription which continues until the User cancels it, select "Ongoing" for the Number of Payments. This will setup a payment plan which automatically re-bills the customer every month, indefinitely.
You can select the time period to happen weekly, monthly or annually, as fits your material.
Please note that you can offer a number of free Trial days if you'd like. This means the site will collect their payment info, but it won't charge their card until after the set number of days.
Offering Trial days is similar to offering a Teaser Module where people can explore your content without feeling they are locked into a payment plan right away -- which can help you increase sales.
Setting Up Payment Plans
This allows you to setup a payment plan where your customers can spread out the cost of an expensive Product over a period of time, to make it easier for them to sign up and join.
First select the time period when the payments should occur -- weekly, monthly or yearly.
โ
Then set the number of repeat payments that will take place to make up the total cost your customers will pay.
IMPORTANT: Set the number of recurring payments to be the total number of payments.
For example: Think of a $99 product with a four-month payment plan. Set the Price to $25 and set the Number of Payments to 4. That will tell MV to collect $25 at purchase, and collect the remaining $75 over the next three months.
Set The Price
Next you will set the Price of your subscription. This will also control the amount of money your customers are charged in their payment plan, if it's not an Ongoing subscription.
For a payment plan, most people make a price that adds up to more than the one-time purchase price.
For example, a $99 product would have four payments of $27. These add up to $108, which is more than $99, but the customer sees $27 as a lot LESS than $99. This is why payment plans work so well.
Save Your Changes and Preview
The last step is to scroll down to the bottom of the Sign Up Options panel and click the Save button.
If you have a lot of Promo Text, this may be quite a distance down the Page.
IMPORTANT: After you have saved your new payment options, preview your product in a logged-out browser Tab and make sure everything appears correctly.
It's a good idea to check the mobile view as well as desktop, to ensure that all your Payment Options appear simple and easy to find.
Good luck with your sales and subscriptions!
