Heads up! ConvertKit has rebranded to Kit on October 1st 2024. We're actively updating our terminology as well screenshots to get you the most accurate information possible. Know that Kit has the same steps and functionality as ConvertKit, so while your screen may look different from what's below, the process is the same!

We highly recommend that you send your customers/clients a welcome email along with their login info once they purchased or signed up for any of your products so they can have this on record for easy access in the future.

While MV doesn’t send any email on your behalf, you can easily create one and trigger the welcome email using our Actions feature and inside this article, we’ll look at how you can set this up.

Want to watch a walk thru video? Shauna from Effortless Launch, one of our awesome preferred service providers, created the below video (learn more about her here). Or you can follow along with the screenshot instructions below the video.

Step 1: Go to Content > Products and click the pencil icon to edit the product

Step 2: Scroll down until you find the Actions area. Click 'Add Action':

Step 3: An action will get added and here’s what it looks like by default:

Under 'How', you have the option to choose a specific method that the members get added to personalize their experience or you can select 'any' if you'd like to apply this tag to everyone who purchased or joined your product.

Step 4: Under the Name of Tag area, you’ll need to create a tag specific to that product.

NOTE: The ‘user_tag’ is just a placeholder so you’ll need to add an actual name there for this to be able to work.

We’d recommend naming it something that is easy for you to recognize and filter. For example ‘Product Name_Customer’ or ‘MV_Freebies’. This tag can be a brand new one, in which case it will be automatically added to Kit or you can use an existing tag that has already been created inside your Kit account. The most important thing is that it needs to exactly match or the Actions won't work.

That’s it! When someone purchases or signs up for your product, the tag will be automatically applied to their contact profile in Kit.

Now let’s find out how you can create automation in Kit using the tag as the trigger in order to send the welcome email along with a swipe file for you to use.

Step 1: Click on Automations > Sequences > New Sequence. Next, give your sequence a name. In this case, we’ll name it ‘Launch Your Course Welcome Email’.

Step 2: Create the welcome email.

For the purpose of this tutorial, we’re going to be creating an email that goes out immediately after people sign up for your product.

Generally, this email should include their login info, which is defaulted to the email address that they used to sign up/purchase your product.

You’ll need to add the shortcode {{ subscriber.email_address }} for the username and password so it will auto-populate to their email address once they receive the welcome email.

Depending on your use case, you might also want to link to a specific module/lesson from within your product inside MemberVault.

To grab the one-click link, go to the module/lesson in question, and click the gear icon:

Next, a pop-up screen will appear and you’ll want to copy the link inside the One-Click Link area and paste it into your email in Kit:

Once people click on the link, they’ll be automatically logged in and able to directly access the module/lesson.

👉 Click here to access the welcome email swipe file

Step 3: Under the ‘Send this email’ area, you’ll want to choose ‘Send email 0 days after the last email’ to ensure that your user will receive the email immediately upon signing up. Then, toggle the publish button to turn on the email sequence.

Step 4: Go to Automations > New Automation

Step 2: Click ‘Create Automation’

Step 3: Select the trigger for the automation.

In this case, we use the ‘Is added to a tag’ option. Under the ‘When a Subscriber is Tagged With’ area you’ll need to choose the tag that you’ve created in MV from the dropdown menu. Next, click ‘Add Event’.

Step 4: Click the ‘+’ sign > Action.
Under ‘Add Subscriber To..’ choose Email Sequence

Step 5: Choose the welcome email sequence that you’ve created in step 2 from the dropdown menu. Don’t forget to turn on your automation by toggling the paused button at the top section of your automation page.

That’s it! You’re all set with your welcome email automation 🎉

Now each time someone signs up or purchases your product, they’ll automatically receive a welcome email that includes their login info.

Once you’ve finished setting up the email automation, we highly recommend that you do a test to ensure that the process is working smoothly without any issues.
