Drawing Products
To begin drawing products, click on the Draw tab and then click the Draw Products tab. By default, the Base Cabinets category is displayed. You can change the product category by clicking on the drop-down menu.
Once a category has been selected, the products contained in it will be displayed. Select the desired product and right-click (or double-click) to access the quick menu.
Fill Wall with Products – Allows you to fill a wall with products by selecting a wall and specifying the distances from the left and right sides of the wall.
Place Product on Wall – Allows you to attach products to a selected wall by selecting the anchor point of the product (left, center, or right) and specifying the distance from either the left or right side of the wall.
Place Product Next to Another Product – Allows you to place a product to the left or right of a product that has already been placed in the drawing.
Place Product at Selected Point – Allows you to place a product at any selected point in the drawing.
Place Products Along Polyline – Allows you to place products along a polyline (products will be arrayed along the polyline).
Add New Empty Product – Allows you to add a blank product at a specific point. This type of product allows you to create a product that does not exist in the current library.
Product Prompts - Allows you to open the prompts interface for a selected product.
Part Properties – Allows you to access the properties of a product. This interface will allow you to make further modifications to a product outside of what is available through the product prompts.
Edit Multiple Product Prompts – Allows you to select multiple products and make modifications to them through a single interface.
Replace – Allows you to replace a product with a different library product. Shared prompt values will be transferred automatically.
Erase – Allows you to erase products from a drawing.
Move – Allows you to move products in a drawing.
Rotate – Allows you to rotate a product around the Z-axis.
Copy – Allows you to copy products in a drawing.
Draw All Products in Category – Allows you to draw all the products within a category. This is a helpful tool for learning about products or developing and testing products.
More – Opens a new menu with various other tools.
Fill Wall with Products
Fill Wall with Products doesn't use the full wall length to place your products. Instead, the software fills the space between the left and right distances specified when running the command. If product widths equate with that space, the filled wall may appear wrong in the 3D representation, even though the wall itself is technically correct. The formula can thus be written as:
Fill span = Wall Length − Left Distance − Right Distance
Example: A 120" wall with a 3" distance specified from the left side and 1 1/2" from the right side, the space available for products is 120"−3"−1 1/2" = 115 1/2", not 120". If you're adding product widths against the full wall length instead of this fill span, the totals will never be the same.
If your products don't fill the wall exactly
Microvellum does not currently warn you if the selected products' combined width doesn't match the calculated fill span. Instead, it will place them as specified, which can leave a gap or overlap at one end. Before running Fill Wall with Products, calculate your product widths and confirm the total matches the fill span above. If it doesn't:
Adjust one product's width (commonly a filler panel) to absorb the difference.
Use Adjust Wall Length after placement, which lets you choose which products use the size change and which do not. See Adjust Wall Length with Microvellum.
Copying the wall length for outside calculations
Wall length displays in your project's dimension format (for example, feet-inches-fraction like 10'-6 3/8"), which won't paste cleanly into a calculator or spreadsheet as a plain number. If you need to do this math outside of Microvellum, convert to decimal inches first before adding or subtracting.
