This article provides an example of how Library Designer can be utilized to make Library wide changes affecting many products at once. Before getting started, ensure that the Library Designer database has been configured and test to make sure it's communicating with the factory database . For help setting up Library Designer for the first time see Setting Up Library Designer .

Make a backup copy of your factory database before experimenting with Library Designer.

Modify Product Prompt Values Across a Library

In this tutorial, we’ll change the standard interior finish material of all closed cabinets in our library to an open finish. Traditionally, we would need to go into each product one by one to change the default values. But with Library Designer, we can make the change across all applicable cabinets in our library at one time.

Start by creating a new Test Project and Room, then Open Library Designer from the Toolbox Setup Menu.

Library designer is a separate application from Toolbox. This allows you to return to Toolbox and launch other parts of the program like product prompts while keeping the Library Designer application window open.

From the Database Tree View, navigate to:

Products > Cabinets Frameless > Drawer-Door Base Cabinets > 1 Door 1 Drawer Base > Prompts

Select the Interior Finish Prompt. Data fields for the prompt will populate in the pane to the right.

All products listed in the Products Using This Item window at the bottom of the interface share the same prompt, so any changes made will affect all items listed.

Select the View All Changes button to open the Edited Items window.

This will allow us to view the changes we have made before committing them to the Library. There should be two lines listed with details about the changes made.

Return to your test Room and Draw a 1 Door 1 Drawer Base. When the Product Prompts window opens, select the Finishing Options tab. Notice the radio button for Open Finish is now selected by default for this closed cabinet.
