Digital ID customization helps staff quickly identify students (for example, by grade color) and scan IDs using compatible scanners.

How to set up and customize Digital IDs

You can customize your digital IDs by using the Settings tab in ID Manager.

Step-by-step guide to choosing your ID design

  1. Navigate to ID Manager.
    ○ Open app.minga.io, sign in, and click ID Manager from your dashboard navigation.

  2. Open the Settings tab.
    ○ Click Settings at the top of ID Manager to view digital ID configuration options.

  3. Select an option under ID Design.
    ○ Choose between the legacy Mingasso design and the newer Mingalangelo design.

Which ID Design should I choose?

There are two ID layouts from which you can choose. Selecting a layout will depend on what features you need from your ID.

  1. MINGASSO (legacy original)

    • Matches the original Minga ID design with no layout changes

    • Uses the established placement of key ID elements (student info and barcode remain in the legacy positions)

  2. MINGALANGELO

    • More compact layout overall

    • Creates more space for stickers and hall passes on the ID

    • Keeps the barcode accessible without needing to scroll

    • Speeds up scanning because staff can reach the barcode faster

Set ID Colors by Grade

You can customize your digital ID colors to match your school colors or to quickly identify each grade. You can set digital ID colors by grade by turning on Custom Background Colors Per Grade in ID Manager → Settings, then choosing a background and font color for each grade and clicking Apply.

Step-by-step guide to setting ID colors

  1. Open ID Manager in your browser
    ○ Go to app.minga.io, sign in, and click ID Manager.

  2. Click the Settings tab
    ○ Confirm the Settings tab is visible, since the article states the Settings tab is only visible to Owners.

  3. Turn on Custom Background Colors Per Grade
    ○ Toggle Custom Background Colors Per Grade to the on position to enable per-grade color fields.

Step-by-step guide to choosing a barcode or QR code

  1. Navigate to ID Manager
    ○ Open app.minga.io, sign in, and click ID Manager.

  2. Open the Settings tab
    ○ Click Settings to access digital ID configuration options.

  3. Open the Barcode type on ID dropdown
    ○ Click the dropdown labeled Barcode type on ID to view available scanning formats.

  4. Select the barcode option you want
    ○ Choose the option that matches your scanning hardware and workflows.
    ○ QR Codes work well when you have selected the MINGALANGELO layout or if you have newer scanners to scan IDs.
    ○ There are 2 format options for the traditional barcodes, CODE 128 or CODE 39. CODE 128 has a much higher data density, allowing it to fit more information into a smaller space than CODE 39. To save space, select CODE 128, but if you have an older scanner, CODE 39 may be best.

Important: If you are going to be using barcode scanners with your digital IDs, please ensure your scanners are capable of scanning QR Codes. Typically, a 2D Scanner Typewill scan barcodes or QR codes from digital screens.

By default, Minga meets California Senate Bill 972 (SB-972) and 316 (SB-316), and includes a built-in option to meet Assembly Bill 727 (AB 727), which requires specific inclusion of LGBTQ+ crisis resources on student IDs. You can turn on any combination of the following:

  • Show English National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

  • Show Spanish National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

  • Show Domestic Violence Hotline

  • Show The Trevor Project 24/7 Suicide Hotline: meets AB 727 for schools in California, and is available to every school regardless of state.

  • Show Mental Health Resources QR Code & Link: displays a QR code on printed IDs and a Visit website link on digital IDs.

Each toggle works independently of the others, so you can turn on any one without needing to enable the rest.

Step-by-step guide to editing support numbers and custom info

  1. Open Minga in a browser
    ○ Using a browser can make typing and editing easier than using a mobile device.

  2. Select ID Manager
    ○ ID Manager opens the area where digital ID card settings are managed.

  3. Click the Settings tab
    ○ The Settings tab is where Owners can configure default numbers and custom card information.

  4. Expand Suicide Hotline Page Settings
    ○ Click the expand control for Suicide & Mental Health Hotline Page Settings to reveal the toggles and fields listed above.

  5. Turn on the toggles for the resources your school wants visible.
    ○ Turn on any combination of Show English National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, Show Spanish National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, Show Domestic Violence Hotline, Show The Trevor Project 24/7 Suicide Hotline, or Show Mental Health Resources QR Code & Link.

  6. Add other school resources separately, if needed.
    ○ Use the Title, URL, and Add Custom Info fields below the toggles to add school resources, such as bus schedules or links to school websites. These fields are separate from the hotline toggles above.

  7. Confirm settings are saved.
    ○ Settings save automatically after changes are made.

Pro Tip: You can add additional local resources in the Add Custom Info field, as well as bus schedules, links to school websites and other resources.

Troubleshooting

Issue: The Settings tab is not visible in ID Manager

Solution: You can access these settings by signing in with an Owner account, because the article states the Settings tab is only visible to Owners.

Issue: Digital ID text is hard to read after changing colors
​Solution: You can improve readability by selecting a higher-contrast Background and Font color pairing, then clicking Apply in ID Manager → Settings.
