You can configure specific messaging permissions by enabling Direct Messaging and then checking the permission boxes only for the desired communication paths, such as Student to Teacher.
What happens if I turn on moderation but don't block flagged content?
If you enable moderation without blocking content, users who attempt to post inappropriate material will receive a warning notification, but the content will still be submitted to the feed.

Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting
Feature Not Visible:
If you cannot see the Settings module, verify that your account is assigned the Owner permission level, as this is required for global configuration.Messaging Not Working:
If users cannot send messages, ensure that the Direct Messaging toggle is On and that the specific role has "Send" permissions enabled.
Teachers/ Staff cannot see a Student's schedule on their profile even though the setting has been enabled:
Double-check that the setting Sync class rosters as user lists automatically under People> Rostering is toggled on and the correct terms are selected under Manage class rosters to be synced. If there is no section data coming from your SIS, schedules will not populate, even with the setting Show schedule on student profile toggled on.
