With the Mini Course Generator (MCG) MCP server, you can create, edit, publish and track interactive online courses from ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or any AI tool that supports MCP. You describe what you want in plain language, and your AI assistant builds it in your MCG account. This guide covers everything the connection can do, with example prompts you can copy.
Not connected yet? Follow Connect MCG to ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, and other AI tools first. It takes about a minute.
At a glance
From a chat with your AI assistant, you can:
Create complete courses from a prompt, a document or your other connected tools.
Make pages interactive with quizzes, tabs, accordions, cards and word games.
Add media: AI or your own images, video, audio and SCORM packages.
Edit, reorganize and translate courses, including ones you built in the MCG editor.
Style, publish and certify your courses.
Enroll learners and email them course invitations.
Track progress, read quiz answers and improve your content from the results.
How your content is organized
Your assistant works with the same structure you see in your MCG dashboard:
Collection: the whole program, with its own landing page. It holds one or more courses.
Course: one focused unit a learner finishes in about one sitting.
Section: a group of pages inside a course.
Page: an information page or a quiz page.
Ask for a broad topic and your assistant creates a collection with several short courses inside it. Ask for a narrow topic and you get a single course.
1. Create a course with AI from a prompt or your own material
Your assistant can build a complete collection in one go: the landing page, the courses, their sections, information pages and quiz pages. It reads MCG's authoring guide first, so the result follows good micro-learning structure: short pages, one idea per page, and a quiz at the end of each section.
Start from what you already have
Courses built on your real material are far better than courses written from one sentence. Give your assistant the source in whatever form you have it:
Paste text or attach a file (PDF, Word, slides) to the chat.
Point it to another tool it's connected to, such as Google Drive, Notion, Confluence or Slack.
Share a link to a public web page.
Landing pages and covers
Every collection and course gets a landing page with an introduction, target audience, learning outcomes and program details. Your assistant writes this copy for you and can generate a cover image or use one you provide.
Everything starts as a draft
New courses are saved as drafts. Learners can't see them until you, or your assistant, publish. Open the draft in MCG to review it first.
Try asking:
"Create a 5-page onboarding course for new sales hires from this PDF, with a short quiz after each section."
"Read our Customer Support space in Confluence and turn it into a collection with one course per topic."
"Draft an outline for a course on GDPR basics for HR teams. Don't build it yet."
2. Make pages interactive
Your assistant can use the same interactive building blocks as the MCG editor. Ask for them by name to get them:
Quiz pages with multiple-choice questions, a correct answer and an optional image.
Cards and numbered cards for concepts and step-by-step guides.
Highlights for key principles that should stand out.
Tabs and tables for comparisons.
Accordions for optional deep dives.
Code blocks for technical courses.
Embeds from YouTube, Vimeo, Loom or online forms.
Games: crossword, word search, Wordle, riddle, jumble and Pixel Quest. Learners' results show up in your reports.
Custom interactive activities: AI tools that can create files, such as Claude Code or Codex, can build a custom activity (a simulation, a drag-and-drop exercise, a branching scenario) and add it to a page as a SCORM package.
Try asking:
"Use tabs to compare our three pricing plans on page 2."
"End each section of the Product Basics course with a word search of its key terms."
"Add a quiz page after the Safety section with four questions."
3. Add images, video, audio and SCORM
AI-generated images: your assistant describes the image and MCG generates it on the page. This uses AI credits (see below).
Your own images: give your assistant an image link and it adds the image to your Media Library and places it on a page. No AI credits are used. When your assistant edits a page that already has an image, it keeps that image instead of creating a new one.
Video: your assistant can host a video from a direct file link so it plays in MCG's own player. For YouTube or Vimeo videos, it uses an embed.
Audio: add audio clips to a page, for example a podcast excerpt or a pronunciation sample. AI tools that can run commands, such as Claude Code, can also create a voice-over narration for a page.
SCORM 1.2 packages: host a SCORM activity inside a page. Later, your assistant can replace the package everywhere it's used, without editing the page again. See Upload/Import SCORM.
Uploading files from your computer: ChatGPT can't pass files from your computer to other tools. To upload a local video, audio file or SCORM package, use an AI tool that can work with files, such as Claude Code or Codex. Files that are already online (a public link) work from any AI tool.
4. Edit, reorganize and translate existing courses
Your assistant can open any course in your workspace, including courses you built by hand in the MCG editor, and change it:
Rewrite pages: simplify the language, shorten them, change the tone or fix mistakes.
Edit quizzes in place: change the question, the answer choices or the correct answer. Learners' past answers are kept.
Add, delete and reorder pages, sections and courses, or move a page to another section.
Rename collections, courses and sections, and update descriptions and cover images.
Translate: your assistant can write a translated copy of a course and set the learner interface (buttons and labels) to the new language. For translation inside the MCG editor, see Course Translation.
Undo unpublished edits: discard a page's draft changes and go back to its live version.
Good to know: when your assistant edits a page, it rewrites the whole page. Hotspot images and questions with more than one correct answer can only be built in the MCG editor, and a rewrite can remove them. If you've polished a page by hand, ask your assistant to leave it alone or to show you the new version before saving.
Try asking:
"Make the pages in Onboarding Essentials shorter and friendlier, and keep the images."
"Move the Refund Policy page to the end of section 2."
"Create a Spanish version of my Safety Basics course."
5. Design, publish and certify
Theme
Your assistant can set a course's layout, font, font size, line height, page alignment, text, background, page and button colors, and a background image. Theme changes apply right away, including on published courses.
Publish and unpublish
Publish a whole course, or a single page when you only want one change to go live.
Unpublish a course or page to take it offline without deleting it. Content and learner progress are kept.
After publishing, your assistant gives you the link to share.
Drafts vs. live changes: page content and quiz edits stay as drafts until they're published. Collection and course settings, themes, section names and the order of pages change immediately.
Certificates
Your assistant can add a completion certificate to a collection, if your plan includes certificates. The default pass mark is 85%, and you can change the design and threshold in the MCG dashboard. See Certification.
Try asking:
"Use our brand colors, #0B1F4D for text and #FF6B35 for buttons, on all my courses."
"Publish the Onboarding course and give me the link."
"Add a completion certificate to the Leadership collection."
6. Enroll learners and send invitations
For collections that use invitation-only access, your assistant can manage who gets in:
Add learners by email. MCG creates their learner account if they don't have one yet.
Email course invitations using the collection's saved invite message. Each learner gets a personal sign-in link. You can send or resend invites to up to 20 learners at a time.
Remove learners to revoke their access. Their progress and certificates are kept.
Adding a learner doesn't send an email unless you ask for one, and your assistant should confirm the recipients with you before it emails anyone. Public collections don't need enrollment: anyone with the link can join.
Access settings themselves (public, invitation-only, email verification) are changed in the MCG dashboard.
Try asking:
"Add these 12 people to the Compliance 101 collection and send them the invite."
"Resend the invite to everyone on Onboarding who hasn't started yet."
7. Track learner progress and improve your courses
Your assistant can read your course analytics and answer questions about your learners:
Collection and course analytics: assigned, engaged and completed learners, certificates, badges and average quiz score.
Learner lists with progress, score, certificate status and last activity.
Who finished a collection or course, optionally since a date.
One learner's full record across every course.
Every answer a learner gave in a course, including quiz pages, games and SCORM activities.
Because the same assistant can edit your courses, you can close the loop in one conversation: find the questions everyone gets right or the pages where learners drop off, then rewrite them.
Public collections don't have a named learner list. You'll see reach and completion figures instead, and anonymous learners appear with a session ID.
Try asking:
"Who started Compliance 101 but hasn't finished it?"
"Which quiz question in Sales Basics does everyone get right? Make it harder."
"Summarize how my courses performed this month."
What you still do in the MCG dashboard
Building hotspot images and questions with more than one correct answer.
Changing access settings, custom domains, white-label emails and webhooks.
Editing a collection landing page's body text after it's created (the name, description and cover can be changed from chat).
Designing certificates.
Does the MCP use AI credits?
Only for AI-generated images. Text, pages, quizzes, games and course structure don't use any credits, however much you build.
AI-generated image on a page: 2 credits with the standard model, 10 with a premium model.
AI-generated cover image: same rate as a page image.
Your own images, video, audio and SCORM: no credits.

Frequently asked questions
Can I create a course in ChatGPT?
Yes. Mini Course Generator is an official ChatGPT plugin. Connect it from the ChatGPT Plugin directory, then mention @Mini Course Generator in any chat and describe the course you want. Your assistant builds it in your MCG account as a draft.
Can Claude create courses with Mini Course Generator?
Yes. Add MCG as a custom connector in Claude (web or desktop) or in Claude Code, sign in, and ask Claude to build or edit your courses. Claude Code can also upload local files such as videos and SCORM packages.
How is this different from MCG's built-in AI Course Builder?
The AI Course Builder works inside the MCG dashboard. The MCP lets the AI assistant you already use do the same work, with access to your other connected tools and files, and it can also edit existing courses, enroll learners and read analytics in the same conversation.
Can it edit courses I built in the MCG editor?
Yes. It can read, rewrite, reorder and publish any course in your workspace. Hotspot images and questions with more than one correct answer can only be built in the editor, so ask your assistant to leave those pages alone.
Will my learners see changes right away?
Page content and quiz edits stay as drafts until they're published. Settings, themes, section names and page order change immediately.
Will my assistant email my learners without asking?
No. Adding a learner doesn't send an email by default. Invitations go out only when you ask for them, and your assistant should confirm the recipients first.
Can I use it in a team workspace?
Yes. When you connect, you choose the workspace your assistant works in, and your role there decides what it can do. To switch workspaces, disconnect and connect again.
Is my data safe?
The connection uses OAuth sign-in, so you never share a password or API key with your AI tool. Every action runs with your own account's permissions, your content stays in Mini Course Generator (hosted in the EU, in Frankfurt), and you can disconnect at any time from your AI tool's settings. What you type in the chat is also handled by your AI provider under its own privacy terms.
