Mini Course Generator MCP - Connect MCG to ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, and Other AI Tools

Written by Eren Gunduz

Mini Course Generator (MCG) connects to the AI assistant you already use. Once connected, you can create, update, publish, and analyze your courses from a conversation, without opening the editor.

New: Mini Course Generator is now an official ChatGPT plugin. ChatGPT users can connect in a few clicks, with no URL or developer settings. Open the Mini Course Generator plugin in ChatGPT.

What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI assistants securely connect to other services. Mini Course Generator runs an MCP server, so ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Manus, and other compatible tools can work with your MCG workspace on your behalf.

What you can do

Once connected, you can ask your AI assistant to:

  • Create courses from a prompt, a document, or material from your other connected tools (for example Google Drive, Notion, or Confluence), with sections, lessons, quizzes, and interactive blocks.

  • Update existing courses: rewrite or translate lessons, add quizzes, reorder lessons and sections, or change the course theme.

  • Publish and share: publish lessons or whole courses, group courses into collections, and add certificates.

  • Add media: upload videos, audio, and SCORM packages from a link.

  • Manage learners: see who is enrolled, add or remove learners from a collection.

  • Check results: completion rates, who finished, and how learners answered quizzes.

Example prompts

  • "Create a 5-lesson onboarding course for new sales hires from this PDF, with a short quiz after each section."

  • "Translate my Safety Basics course into Spanish."

  • "Which lesson in Onboarding Essentials loses the most learners?"

  • "List my courses."

Requirements

  • A Mini Course Generator account. A free account is enough. Sign up at minicoursegenerator.com.

  • An AI tool that supports plugins, apps, or MCP connectors (see below).

For tools other than ChatGPT, you'll need the MCP server URL:

https://mcp.minicoursegenerator.com/mcp

How to connect

ChatGPT (recommended: official plugin)

1. Open the Mini Course Generator plugin in ChatGPT. You can also open Plugins in ChatGPT (chatgpt.com/plugins) and search for Mini Course Generator.

2. Select Connect, sign in to your Mini Course Generator account, and pick your workspace.

3. In any chat, type @Mini Course Generator or choose it from + then More. Try: "@Mini Course Generator list my courses."

Can't connect? Connect can be unavailable on some ChatGPT plans, in some regions, or when a workspace admin restricts plugins. You can still add it manually: turn on Developer Mode in ChatGPT's settings, create an app with OAuth authentication, and use the MCP server URL above.

Claude (Claude.ai and Claude Desktop)

1. In Claude, click Customize, then Connectors. You can also go straight to claude.ai/settings/connectors.

2. Click the plus button next to Connectors and choose Add custom connector.

3. Paste https://mcp.minicoursegenerator.com/mcp as the server URL and click Add.

4. Sign in with your MCG account, pick your workspace, and authorize access. Then try: "In Mini Course Generator, list my courses."

Claude Code (CLI)

claude mcp add --transport http mcg https://mcp.minicoursegenerator.com/mcp

Claude Code opens a browser window for the MCG sign-in the first time you use an MCG tool.

Cursor

1. Open Settings → MCP, or edit ~/.cursor/mcp.json directly.

2. Add a new server entry:

{
"mcpServers": {
"mini-course-generator": {
"url": "https://mcp.minicoursegenerator.com/mcp"
}
}
}

3. Restart Cursor. The first MCG tool call opens the sign-in.

Manus

1. In Manus, open Settings and go to Connectors.

2. Choose Add connector, then Custom MCP.

3. Name it Mini Course Generator and paste the MCP server URL.

4. Complete the sign-in, pick your workspace, then ask Manus to list your courses.

Other AI tools

Any tool that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth can connect. Add a new MCP server with the URL above, then sign in with your MCG account when prompted.

Good to know

  • Your account, your permissions. The connection uses a secure OAuth sign-in. Your assistant can only do what your role in the workspace allows. You can disconnect at any time from your AI tool's plugin or connector settings.

  • Drafts vs. live changes. Lesson edits are saved as drafts until they are published. Course settings, themes, section names, and lesson order change right away.

  • Learners are not notified. Adding a learner to a collection gives them access but does not send them an email.

  • AI credits. Generating AI images inside lessons uses your workspace's AI credits.
