What is Vocal Mode and how do I use it in le Chat?

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Vocal Mode is our new audio transcription feature that allows you to chat with le Chat using your voice in your preferred language, instead of typing.

๐Ÿ“Œ This feature is available in both the web app and mobile apps (iOS / Android), regardless of your subscription plan (limits may apply).

How to use Vocal Mode

1. Activate Vocal Mode

In an active le Chat conversation, click on the Vocal Mode button in the bottom right corner of the chat window to begin.

2. Authorize audio access

The first time you use Vocal Mode, you may need to authorize audio access in your browser or mobile app.

A popup will typically appear asking for your permission to use the microphone. Click Allow or the equivalent affirmative option.

๐Ÿšจ If you have previously denied audio access for our site or app, you may need to manually enable the microphone permission in your browser's site settings or within your mobile device's app settings. Please refer to your browser or mobile operating system documentation for specific instructions.

3. Start speaking

Once you've authorized access, the microphone will be active.

You may start speaking to le Chat immediately. Don't limit yourself to a single sentence but speak naturally as you would in a conversation. When you're finished, le Chat will process your audio recording in its entirety.

Changed your mind? Unhappy with your recording? Click the cancel button (1) to stop the recording immediately and discard your audio message.

Ready to proceed? Click the send button (2) to stop recording and finalize the transcription.

4. Use your audio transcription

After you stop recording, your transcribed audio message will appear in the message input box, ready for review and configuration. You may:

  • (1) Delete your audio recording and keep the text transcription only by clicking the โ€œcrossโ€ icon next to the audio tag.

  • (2) Edit and add any additional text to your transcribed audio message.

  • (3) Add tools (Libraries, Connections, Agents, etc.) to provide more context for your query.

  • (4) Lastly, click the main send button to send your message to le Chat.

This will create a new conversation with your audio message (if applicable) and the corresponding text transcription.

๐Ÿ”‘ To keep chatting with le Chat with Vocal Mode, repeat the process after each response within this same conversation.

๐Ÿ”Ž You can also edit the text of an audio message after it has been sent in a conversation. See this dedicated article for more information.
