On the Budget & Goal tab, you'll be prompted to enter your Campaign Goal Type, Campaign Goal, and Campaign Budgets. Your campaign budget determines how much spend to allocate to your campaign for a customizable period of time.

To learn more about your Campaign Goal Type options and assigning a campaign goal, head over to the "Setting your Campaign Goal" Knowledge Base Article

In this article, we'll review:

Adding New Budgets

You have the option between setting monthly or flighted budgets when assigning new budgets to your campaign.

Monthly Budget Type

  • Set Budget Type as "Monthly" to reset the budget to the defined "Budget" amount on the 1st of every month, through the defined end data

  • Monthly budgets can have a defined end date, or can be set up as ongoing, resetting budget until the campaign is manually paused or until the budget is replaced

  • Defining Start or End dates that are mid-month

    • You have the option to set your budget as "monthly" even if the start or end dates do not fall on the 1st and last of the month respectively

    • If the start or end dates intersect the month, budgets will automatically be pro-rated for that time period based on the defined "Pacing per day" amount, and budget type will be changed to "flighted" only for that month. Example below:

  • Important Note: If you push your campaigns live after being paused and are utilizing an existing monthly recurring budget, the UI will not prorate the monthly budget

    • the budget tool will not recognize that you were paused earlier in the month since the budget flight was still considered "active" even though it was not spending.

    • What this means is the UI will spend your budget in full for the month upon relaunch, so you need to manually prorate budgets by setting up a new budget as "flighted" and utilizing the "Replace" function, calculating daily spend as provided in the UI * days left in month = flighted budget.

    • For Example: If you have a recurring monthly budget set up of $10,000 and you relaunch on the 25th of the month, the system will spend that full $10,000 over that 5 day period. It is imperative that you create a new flighted budget type, in this case it would equal $333.33 [daily spend] * 5 [days left in the month] = $1,667 [budget input for your new flighted budget through EOM]

Flighted Budget Type

  • Set budget type as "Flighted" to spend a pre-determined budget across your custom defined timeframe

  • This budget will not reset after the defined end time

  • Budget will be paced evenly every day throughout the lifetime of the flighted budget

  • If a new flighted budget overlaps with an ongoing monthly budget (AKA "end date" set as ongoing), that monthly budget will continue following the end of the flighted budget.

Overlapping Budgets

If a new budget is added in that overlaps with existing scheduled or live budgets, you're given the option to either Boost your budget or Replace your budget during that timeframe. You'll see the "Intersecting Dates" flag prior to pushing any budget changes live.

  • Boost

    • Combine the budgets to boost spend on the intersecting dates

    • This will combine the existing budget with the new budget change for the overlapping time frame

  • Replace

    • Replace spend on the intersecting dates using the new budget

    • This will replace the existing budget with the new combined budgets for the overlapping time frame

Review changes

Prior to any budget changes being saved, you will be prompted to review all changes made.

Best Practices

  • Daily budgets

    • The UI will allow you to end a budget and begin a new budget mid-day, but

  • Deleting Budget and Budget Gaps

    • While you can delete a scheduled budget, you cannot delete budget gaps, which will automatically be added as a line item with a $0 total.

    • This is a safeguard to outline that your campaign will be paused during the outlined time frame, based on your scheduled budget start and end dates

  • Status Filter

    • All scheduled budgets will be classified as either "live" "scheduled" or "ended"

    • All live and scheduled budgets are shown on the Budget & Goal homepage by default, but "ended" budgets are also available through the filtering option

  • Budget Type Filter

    • All scheduled budgets will be classified as either "monthly" or "flighted"

    • All budget types are shown on the Budget & Goal homepage by default

    • Filtering is available to select either Monthly or Flighted budgets if you would like to view

FAQs

  • Can I set different pacing schedules for different creative assets?

  • If my flight underspends, will that underspend be added into the next flight?

    • No, once a flight is complete, unspent budget will not roll over into the next flight. Our automated bidding technology is always striving to pace evenly while finding the most efficient inventory as possible, so while we don't expect your flight to underspend, please reach out to your CSM for any pacing questions.

  • Can I edit a live budget?

    • While you can edit a live budget, we would recommend that you leverage our "Boost" and "Replace" features to add or change any live budgets.

  • Do I need to prorate my budgets if I'm adding a new monthly budget mid-month?

    • Nope! The UI will automatically prorate your monthly budget based on the days left in the month to ensure you spend on track. This does not apply to the "flighted" budget set-up.

  • We are running a promotion, what is the best course of action to add in incremental budget over this time period?

    • If you already have a live or scheduled budget during the time of a promotion where you would like to add incremental budget, we would recommend that you create a new budget flight for those incremental dollars. From here, you can leverage our "boost" function to spend the original scheduled budget + the new incremental budget added. Our UI will then make all of the necessary adjustments to your flights automatically, which you can review during the "Review Changes" step.

  • Can we leverage the flighted budget tool to day-part?

    • This tool is not intended to be used for day parting, and it does not support multiple budget changes in a single day.

  • Can I set budgets based on a daily target?

    • Yes! Our Flighted Budget tool allows you to input either a daily spend target, or the total budget. The UI will automatically calculate the unchosen variable based on your input.
