This is a guide on how to upload originations data—or any other piece of information that has an address—into Mortgage MarketSmart.
To begin, from your dashboard, navigate to the left-hand side and click on "Data Files" under the "Data" section.
If the data files section is not populated, you can click on "Add Data File" to upload your data file. As an example, let's say you're trying to upload certain transactions in Chicago. You will have a file with various column headers such as loan officer, MLS ID, lender, loan amount, and more.
Next, go back to Market Smart and drag and drop the file from your folder to add it to the list.
Name it and provide a description. MarketSmart will automatically identify some columns like City, Loan Type, and State based on the column headings. However, there may be some columns that it doesn't recognize, and it's your job to assign them.
For each unrecognized column, click on "Select" and assign the corresponding field name. For example, assign "Address" to "Address 1" and leave "County" blank since it will be added automatically during geocoding.
Add a new column called "Lender" and define its properties, such as being a string data type with no mathematical operations or decimal places. Similarly, add columns for "Lender NMLS ID," "Loan Officer," and "Loan Type Category," and assign them accordingly. For columns that are not relevant or don't have any data, you can choose to ignore them. Repeat the process when new columns needs to be added.
Once you're satisfied with the column assignments, save the changes. Depending on the file size, it may take some time for the upload to complete. You can either wait or refresh the browser to see the progress.
After the upload is finished, Mortgage MarketSmart will display the number of rows that were successfully geocoded and any potential errors. However, the information is not yet published indicated by the red X.
To publish the data, click on the edit option next to the file and select the folder where you want it to be published. Check the "Is Published" box and save the changes.
Once the data is published, it will be indicated with a green checkmark and will be available in the specified folder.
From your dashboard, you can start a new project and add a layer using the uploaded data. Select the appropriate app or loan, specify the year and location, and save the settings.
The originations will then be displayed on the map, and you can interact with the data by clicking on individual markers to view the property addresses.
That concludes our tutorial on how to upload originations into Market Smart.
