Can I get a shutter count?

Learn about shutter-counts, applicable models and how to find the shutter count on our listings

What is a Shuttercount?

A shutter count is the number of times a camera's shutter has opened and closed to take a photo. It's similar to the mileage on a car—it indicates how heavily the camera has been used.

A camera's shutter mechanism has a limited lifespan (often rated by manufacturers to last anywhere from around 50,000 to over 300,000 shutter actuations, depending on the camera model). Photographers often check the shutter count when buying or selling used cameras because it gives an indication of the camera's condition and expected remaining lifespan.

The lower the shutter count, typically, the better the condition and value of the camera.

Mirrorless Camera Shutter Count

We aim to display as many shutter counts as possible on our camera bodies. If the shutter count is not displayed on the product page then we are not currently able to obtain one on that model.

We do not provide shutter counts on most mirrorless cameras on our site. This is due to the counts being inaccurate and recording the amount of button presses rather than actuations.

Mirrorless cameras do not endure the same faults or shutter failure as cameras with a mechanical shutter which means it's not important information, nor will it be an indication of the condition of the camera.

Where to find shutter counts?

You can find the shutter count for an item displayed in the listing preview, below the 'Cosmetic Condition,' as well as in the 'Closer Look' section of the listing, next to the 'Cosmetic Condition.’

Do shutter counts affect quote price?

If the shutter count is lower than expected for an item's condition grade, we'll add money to your quote. If the shutter count is higher than expected, we'll adjust the quote accordingly. You can find further information on our grading guide below
