Email Alerts
Email Alerts help you easily monitor media and receive email notifications to your inbox. You can monitor specific content related to your brand, products, hashtags, and competitors. When you receive an alert, you can add journalists to media lists, track coverage in reports, and share broadcast links.
Overview of an Email Alert
Muck Rack Email Alerts will include:
An Alert Summary at the top (if connected to multiple Trackers) that lists the number of results for each Tracker and the UVM metrics for that alert
A list of results grouped by Tracker (and depending on the order you set in your Alert Settings)
Each results includes:
The name of the article (which opens the article in a new tab when the link is selected)
The date it was published
The name and title of the author (with a link to their Muck Rack profile)
The name of the outlet (which links to the Outlet profile)
A preview of the article with alert keywords highlighted
Up to 4 relevant topics included in the article
Metrics (as selected in your Alert Settings)
A link to manually add the article to a Coverage Report

Create an Email Alert from Search Results
We recommend creating an Alert from your Search Results page for the most efficient workflow.
From your results page, select Create Alert in the action bar.
When prompted, create a Tracker (this will power your Alert).
Fill in your Alert details by giving your Alert a name and choosing visibility using the Shared with dropdown.
Choose your Delivery Settings:
Alert Type: Email or Slack
Subscribers who will receive your Alerts (Brand Premier users can add anyone as a subscriber, even if they are not a Muck Rack user!)
Delivery days: Daily or Specific Days
Frequency: Once per day, Twice per day, Three times per day, or As published
NOTE: Alerts set to "As published" can include up to 2 Trackers, while other Alert frequencies allow up to 10 Trackers.
Sending time
Timezone
Fill in your Content to Monitor section to determine which coverage will be captured in your Alert. You can add up to 10 Trackers to a single Alert.
Once added, you can:
Select the arrows next to your Trackers to reorder the way they appear in your Alert
Choose how they are sorted (by Recency, UVM, Relevancy, or Prominence)
Choose whether you would like to show any coverage data such as UVM, Sentiment, or Domain Authority.
Select the Save button.
Create an Email Alert From Scratch
From the navigation bar, select Monitoring > Alerts.
Select the Create Alert button.
Follow the rest of the steps from above.
Add Subscribers Without a Muck Rack Seat
NOTE: This option is exclusive to Brand Premier users only.
Brand Premier users can invite others without a Muck Rack seat to subscribe to their Alerts using the following steps:
Navigate to your Alert Settings by going to Monitoring > Alerts, selecting the three dots under Actions, and selecting Settings and Sharing.
Under Delivery Settings > Subscribers, enter the email address of the person you would like to share your alert with into the Subscribers field and select Enter.
Wait for that person to accept the invite via email.
Note: Before a non MR user begins to receive any Subscribed-to Alerts, they will first need to accept via the "Yes, send me the Alerts" button in the email they receive from Muck Rack.
Regular Alert vs. Non-MR User Alert
Subscribers without a Muck Rack seat will see a different version of the Alert than paid Muck Rack users. These emails will be stripped of buttons like “Edit Tracker,” “View latest results,” or "Edit Alert Setttings." Results will also not include the option to "Add to Coverage Report" or "View Duplicates."
Recipients without a Muck Rack seat can only view the coverage you’ve selected (up to 100 results per Alert). There will be an ‘unsubscribe’ option provided in the email if users want to opt-out at any time.
A Note on Alerts with 100+ Results
Alert emails are cut off at 100 results. To see results beyond the first 100, Muck Rack users can select the "View Latest Results" button at the bottom, which will open the search results page with the Alert's settings applied.
However, Non-MR users do not have the ability to see beyond the 100-result limitation of an Alert email since this would require them to log into Muck Rack to view full search results.
Troubleshooting Tips
Issue | Solution |
You did not receive your email alert notification |
Your email client may be automatically sorting these emails elsewhere in your inbox -- try searching the subject line "Muck Rack Alert" in your spam and junk folders.
We recommend saving the email address alerts@muckrack.com as a contact in your email to better prevent these emails from automatically sorting into undesired folders.
If the keywords entered in the settings of your Alert are not formatted properly (misuse of a Boolean operator, missing a quotation mark in a phrase, etc.). In that case, Muck Rack may not be able to recognize the appropriate article links to pull and, therefore not trigger an Alert email notification to you.
If you go to the settings of your Alert, you can review the keyword formatting in the Terms to Monitor box. You may see an error like the one below indicating a formatting error somewhere in your keyword string. You can select Search Help just above this box to view a guide on all the Boolean operators and correct formatting rules.
Our team is happy to help review the formatting of your keyword strings as well. Select the chat icon in the bottom right or email support@muckrack.com to get in touch with us.
Suppose you ensured that your keyword string is properly formatted in the Alert settings and the emails are not being delivered elsewhere in your inbox. In that case, the next troubleshooting step to take is to have your IT whitelist our IP addresses to improve the deliverability of these emails better.
Please contact us at support@muckrack.com, and our team can provide the necessary IP addresses for your team to whitelist.
