Whether you find yourself in another country for work, travel, or other reasons, your ability to seek out healthcare with coverage with myHSA is important. In this article, we'll explain how to do it.

  1. Confirm Practitioner License:

Before seeking medical services in another country, it is imperative to verify that the healthcare practitioner you will be visiting is licensed in the respective country or state. The responsibility falls on you to ensure their qualification match those on your list of Professional Service Practitioners. This step ensures the legitimacy of the services you receive and facilitates a smoother reimbursement process.

2. Claim Submission in CAD:

Once you've received your medical services, the next step is to submit your claim for reimbursement. All claims must be submitted in Canadian Dollars (CAD). You can enter the amount in CAD in the "Claim Amount" field, and the currency exchange rate you used to calculate that in the "memo" section of your claim so the adjudicator can verify it. You can just search it up on Google and make sure it's the currency exchange rate from the date of the service you are claiming!

Alternatively, you can include your bank statement showing the exchange in real time if you used a credit card.

3. Handling Receipts in Foreign Languages:

If your medical receipt is issued in a foreign language, it is essential to provide a translated version in English for the adjudicator's understanding. This translation should accurately convey the details of the services received and the associated costs. Google Translate is a tool you can use to obtain the translation.

Out-of-Country Claims can seem daunting, but by following the steps in this guide, we can reimburse your claim quickly. We are on your team, and want to reimburse your claim as quickly as possible!
