Overview
Electronic Trade Documents (ETD) let FedEx receive your commercial invoice and other customs paperwork digitally instead of requiring printed copies to travel with the package. For FedEx to accept ETD on your international shipments, Logiwa IO needs a letterhead image and a signature image on file for your carrier connection. Even with both images uploaded, ETD can still be turned off entirely using the Disable ETD Submission toggle on the FedEx carrier setup.
When to Use It
Set this up when:
You regularly ship internationally with FedEx and want to avoid attaching printed customs paperwork to packages
You're seeing customs documentation issues or delays on international FedEx shipments
You want to stop sending ETD — temporarily or permanently — without removing your uploaded images
Prerequisites
Before configuring ETD, ensure:
Your FedEx carrier connection is already set up in Logiwa IO (see the FedEx Integration article)
You have a letterhead image and a signature image ready to upload (check with your FedEx account representative for format/size requirements)
You ship internationally with this FedEx connection — ETD only applies to international shipments
Step-by-Step Instructions
Navigate to Integrations > Shipping > FedEx Integration.
Find your carrier connection in the list, and click the ⋯ (options) menu on the right side of its row.
Select Add Signature / Letterhead.
Upload your Letterhead image.
Upload your Signature image.
Click Save.
Both images should show as uploaded when you re-enter same page.
Disable ETD Submission should reflect your intended setting.Confirm the Disable ETD Submission toggle is set to Off if you want ETD to be sent once your images are uploaded.
Key Fields & Options
Field | Description | Notes |
Letterhead image | Uploaded to FedEx and used on ETD documents | Both this and the signature image must be uploaded for ETD to activate |
Signature image | Uploaded to FedEx and used on ETD documents | Both this and the letterhead image must be uploaded for ETD to activate |
Disable ETD Submission | Toggle on the FedEx carrier setup that stops ETD from being sent | Off by default. Overrides everything else — if turned on, ETD will not be submitted even if both images are correctly uploaded |
Common Questions & Edge Cases
I uploaded both images, but ETD still isn't being submitted. Why?
Check the Disable ETD Submission toggle on your FedEx carrier setup. If it's turned on, ETD won't be sent regardless of your uploaded images — this toggle takes priority over everything else.
I want to pause ETD without losing my uploaded images. What should I do?
Turn on Disable ETD Submission. Your letterhead and signature images stay on file, and you can turn the toggle back off later to resume ETD without re-uploading anything.
Why did my image upload fail?
Uploads that fail return an image upload error. Double-check your file meets FedEx's format and size requirements and try again.
Does this affect domestic shipments?
No. ETD only applies to international shipments — domestic shipments are unaffected regardless of your image upload or toggle status.
Will my commercial invoice still be attached to the shipment if ETD is disabled?
Yes. International shipments still generate and attach a commercial invoice; disabling ETD just means it's handled as printed paperwork rather than submitted electronically to FedEx.
