Barcodes are typically used by resellers. You may see the following acronyms used to identify barcodes:

  • GTIN: Global Trade Item Number

  • ISBN: International Standard Book Number

  • UPC: Universal Product Codes

  • IAN: International Article Number, includes EAN (European Article Number)

GTINs are unique identifiers used internationally to store and locate product information. GTINs incorporate UPC, IAN, ISBN, etc. under their umbrella.

All of these codes may vary in length depending on the product type. You can find the GTIN above or below the barcode on the packaging for your product.

Some sales channels require a GTIN before a product can be published using the channel. If you don't have a GTIN for a product, then you can request it from the manufacturer. Please note that you cannot independently assign GTIN information to your products.
