Every notebook you have worked in stays in your account, and the notebooks list, opened from the Notebooks button in the top band of an open notebook, is where you find and manage them.
Finding a notebook again
Open the Nearo desktop app and sign in, then open your room or start a session with your student.
To open your room, press the blue Open my room button at the bottom of the My room card on the home screen.
Click the Notebooks icon in the Controls bar, the dark gray strip along the bottom of the call window, right after Share Screen, to open a notebook.
Press the Notebooks button in the upper right of the open notebook, in the top band, to open your notebooks list. In a narrow window, it moves into the More (⋮) menu at the right end of the top band.
The top band is the strip across the top of the open notebook, and the notebooks list opens as a box in the middle of the window.
Look at the top of the list first. The list is sorted by most recently opened, so a notebook you reopened last week returns to the top.
Type in the Search notebooks and templates field, under Start New, to filter the list. Search looks for what you typed, as one piece of text, anywhere in the notebook's name, your student's name, or the name of an imported PDF.
Click Show more at the bottom of the list to see more notebooks.
Typing "maya" finds every notebook with Maya in the name, and "mar 3" finds every notebook from March 3. Type dates the way they appear in names — "Mar", not "March" — and search for one thing at a time: "maya mar" finds nothing, because the name has " - " between your student's name and the date.
Each row shows the notebook's name, its page count, and when you last opened it — for example, "4 pages · Opened Sep 10, 4:00 PM". Dates are always the actual date and time, never "Today" or "Yesterday." If a notebook matched only on the name of an imported PDF, the row shows that file name.
A line above the list counts what you have, such as "12 notebooks · 3 templates." While you search, it shows how many matches there are, or "No notebooks match" followed by what you typed.
Templates you have saved appear in their own TEMPLATES section, with Use on each row. The NOTEBOOKS and TEMPLATES headings show only when you have both, and in an empty Room the templates come first. To learn more, see Using templates in Nearo notebooks.
To leave the list without choosing anything, click the ✕ at the top right of the box or click outside it. You return to whatever was on screen before.
ℹ️ Notebook names come from whatever name your student typed when joining the session, so the same student may appear slightly differently across notebooks — "Jennifer Donaldson," "Jennifer D," or "jennifer." Renaming a notebook is the way to make the names consistent.
Renaming a notebook
Click ···, the three dots at the end of the notebook's row in the list.
Click Rename.
Edit the name in the dialog and click Save.
You can also rename a notebook while it is open by clicking its name at the top left, or the pencil beside it.
Duplicating a notebook
Click ··· at the end of the notebook's row in the list.
Click Duplicate.
Keep or edit the suggested name, "[original name] (copy)," and click Duplicate.
The copy appears at the top of the list. You stay in the list, and the copy does not open.
Deleting a notebook
Click ··· at the end of the notebook's row in the list.
Click Delete.
Click Delete again to confirm.
Delete is not available for the notebook that is open right now, so close it first by clicking Close at the right end of the top band of that notebook. Closing a notebook takes you back to the video tiles of you and your student.
🔔 Deleting a notebook is permanent. There is no trash and no undo. Deleting a page inside a notebook can be undone, but deleting a whole notebook cannot.
