This article serves as the quick start guide and Data Dictionary for the Inventory Advisor Data Service. Please use this article as your reference guide while integrating with the Inventory Advisor Data Service feature.

Inventory Advisor Data Service Setup

The Inventory Advisor Data Service is an add-on module offered within the Inventory Advisor application to any of the existing package offerings. To enable the module, contact your Account Manager for activation. Once activated, please follow the steps below.

Setting up your Data Service connection

Once the Data Service module has been activated in your Inventory Advisor application, the module will be visible within the settings menu as per the below:

To continue with setting up your Data Service connection, please click on the Data Service menu option (Settings → Data Service). Once selected, you will be routed to a Data Service specific configuration page containing the following sections:

  • Access: Providing connection details to the MySQL Data Service database;

  • CIDR/IP Whitelisting: Specify the authorized networks allowed to interact with your data;

  • SaaS Whitelisting: Select the SaaS BI tool that will be used for data analytics via the Data Service module.

Access

The MySQL Netstock Inventory Advisor access credentials are provisioned automatically. Once available, the credentials will appear in the ‘Access’ panel of the data service configuration page. Note that this provisioning can take up to 30 minutes from activation of the data service module by your Customer Success consultant.

The access credentials must remain stored in a secure location for security purposes, keeping in mind secure sharing policies.

CIDR/IP Whitelisting

The CIDR range / IP address needs to be loaded from the connecting external IP. To do this, select the ‘Add’ option in the CIDR/IP Whitelisting panel:

Insert details of the authorized networks allowed to interact with the data, ensuring that each IP/range contains a unique description.

*Note that these can be updated after saving.

Once saved, the CIDR/IP Whitelisting panel will contain the newly added details. Please note, multiple entries can be provisioned as required.

SaaS Whitelisting

Lastly, the SaaS Provider needs to be selected and configured. Please select from the list of providers available and confirm the regions. Once confirmed, select the ‘Add Selected SaaS Regions’ button:

For SaaS tools that are self-hosted within the company, or where they are hosted in an environment where you bring your own SaaS server, these will not appear on the SaaS whitelisting panel. For more information on loading your Business Intelligence tool in the list or requiring additional assistance, please click here for advanced support.

Once the regions have been selected, the data will appear in the SaaS Whitelisting panel.

With all the necessary configurations set, use the MySQL access details provided to establish a connection from your selected BI Tool to the netstock Data Service, allowing the extraction of the required data.

Netstock BI Connection Tester

To confirm connectivity with Netstock’s data service, as well as for troubleshooting, the Netstock BI Connection Tester tool can be installed. The tool is available to Mac and Windows users from your Customer Success consultant.

Select “IA BI Data Service” from the dropdown menu, and add the access credentials received on the Access panel on IA’s data service screen, as well as a database name. Once added, select “Run Connection Test.”

Confirmations will be provided next to each connectivity check:

  • Your device is connected to the internet

  • The host is reachable using port 3306 (standard for this type of connection)

  • A connection to Netstock’s IA data service is successful

  • The last date and time an update was processed.
