Using CarPlay or Android Auto With Your Nexar Dash Cam
Updated today

This article explains how using wireless CarPlay and Android Auto affects the connectivity and recordings between the Nexar dash cam and Nexar Classic.

Can I use CarPlay or Android Auto wirelessly while recording?

CarPlay and Android Auto set wirelessly is not compatible with Nexar Classic. This is because wireless CarPlay and Android Auto connect your phone to your vehicle’s infotainment system using your phone's WiFi connection, which is the same way the Nexar dash cam connects and streams video to your phone.

Since phones can only connect to one WiFi signal at any given time, it’s not possible to use CarPlay or Android Auto wirelessly with Nexar Classic and Nexar dash cam when streaming during a drive or while you're saving videos from the dash cam.

What happens if I use wireless CarPlay or Android Auto while driving?

Using wireless CarPlay or Android Auto while driving can cause connection and recording issues, but the Nexar dash cam will still record to its internal memory/SD card even when this happens.

For Nexar Pro, Beam, NEXC1, and NEXS1, you can recover these videos by connecting your phone to the dash cam via WiFi and Bluetooth, if you are using an iPhone. You can also get these videos directly from the dash cam's SD card using a computer by following the steps here: https://intercom.help/nexar/en/articles/8485674

For NEXC2, you can use the Nexar Memory Card Reader App, and here are the steps: https://intercom.help/nexar/en/articles/8485681

Can I use wired CarPlay or Android Auto while recording?

It is possible to use CarPlay and Android Auto wired (with a USB cable) while recording videos to your phone, just not wirelessly.

We recommend connecting your phone to your vehicle’s infotainment system using a USB charging cable. This way, the Nexar WiFi network won’t be interrupted while recording your drives on the app and won’t interfere with CarPlay or Android Auto while in use.

Will wireless CarPlay or Android Auto affect the videos that are recorded in the Nexar dash cam's SD Card or Internal Memory?

No, wireless Carplay or Android Auto will not affect videos saved in the Nexar dash cam. Nexar Classic and dash cam save videos independently of one another. Any videos saved in the dash cam will not be affected by CarPlay or Android Auto.

Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto will only affect videos being saved in Nexar Classic since they can interfere with recording videos to your phone. Using them will not change your overall experience with the Nexar dash cam itself since the camera will still record videos with or without a phone connected to it while driving.

Please note that if you choose to drive with CarPlay or Android Auto wirelessly during your drive, then we recommend saving important clips as soon as possible before they get overwritten with new drive recordings.
