Nexar One's Automatic Recording Feature Not Working

Updated over a year ago

This article will help you troubleshoot your Nexar One in case you experience issues with the automatic recording feature.

What to Do When the Nexar One Does Not Automatically Start Recording

If your Nexar One does not automatically start streaming and recording your drives, follow these steps:

Please ensure that you are only using the original cable, mount, and Nexar-provided power accessory that came with the camera to avoid any potential issues.

1. Ensure the power plug is correctly inserted into the magnetic mount (not the add-on ports).

2. Disable VPN, hotspots, wireless Android Auto/CarPlay, and security apps.

3. Verify that all required permissions are correctly set.

4. Disable Low Power mode or Battery Optimization.

5. Background App Refresh should be enabled in the phone settings

6. In the Nexar app, go to More > Dash cam and make sure the Automatic dash cam connection or Automatically start streaming toggle is enabled.

7. For iOS users: Ensure that the Phone's battery optimization toggle is disabled.

8. Take a few test drives to check if the issue is resolved.

If the problem persists, follow these steps:

1. Restart your phone and Nexar One.

2. Turn on the phone's Bluetooth and WiFi and wait until the blue/white light stops blinking

3. Turn your phone's WiFi and Bluetooth OFF and then back ON.

4. Make sure the Nexar One WiFi networks appear in your phone settings.

5. Perform a few test drives to confirm if the issue is resolved.

What to Do When the Nexar One Does Not Automatically Stop Recording

If you are experiencing issues where the Nexar One continues to record in the app even when you're done driving, take note of the following:

If you are using the cigarette lighter adapter on a regular powered port, the Nexar One turns off 30 seconds after the car is turned off.

If you are using an OBD kit, hardwire kit, or your Nexar One is connected to a continuous power port, it may take up to 2 minutes to fully power off after the vehicle has been turned off.

Please do the following to make sure your Nexar One and Nexar app will stop recording when you're done driving:

1. Plug the Nexar One to power

2. Turn on the phone's Bluetooth and WiFi and wait until the blue/white light stops blinking

3. Open the Nexar app, then go to More, then tap Dash cam, and enable the Continuous power port toggle

4. Go to your phone's Settings app, then enable Motion & Fitness (for iOS) or Physical Activity (for Android)

The Nexar One on a continuous power port may remain powered on if it's within the range of your phone's Bluetooth or WiFi signal. This signal can indicate to the dash cam that you're still in the vehicle and driving, preventing it from turning off.

How to Deal With Random Drive Recordings

If you're receiving drive started notifications or hard brake notifications from the Nexar app when you're not driving with Nexar One, follow these steps:

1. Ensure the power plug is correctly inserted into the magnetic mount (not the add-on ports).

2. Enable the Continuous power outlet toggle in the app.

3. Turn on the Motion & Fitness (for iOS) or Physical Activity (for Android) permission for the Nexar app in your phone settings.

Monitor the Nexar app's behavior after following these instructions. If you still encounter difficulties, reach out to our support team. Sharing the date and time of the affected drives will be helpful for the investigation.
