AI Chat

Learn about Novela AI Chat, which helps you brainstorm, research, and get feedback by chatting with AI as you write.

Updated this week

AI Chat lets you get help from AI at any point while writing, just like having a conversation.

It goes beyond simple sentence editing and can act as a writing partner that helps you develop your work together.

When AI Chat Can Help

  • When you’re stuck and need help brainstorming ideas

  • When you’re unsure about how the next scene should unfold

  • When you need research on historical settings, professions, or specialized knowledge

  • When you want feedback on your writing from a reader’s or editor’s perspective

Starting an AI Chat

  1. Click the Novela AI button in the bottom-right corner to open the chat window.

  2. As you write, ask any questions or request help whenever you need it.

Example Questions

[Story Research]

  • Which real cities in the eastern United States is Easter Egg similar to?Please explain in terms of economy, history, and social-cultural context.

[Brainstorming]

  • Are there any alternative ideas that could add a twist to this setup—something that avoids clichés?

[Story Direction]

  • This scene feels emotionally too calm right now. What kind of event could come next?

[Feedback]

  • Does this paragraph feel too explanatory, or does it read naturally?

Chat with References

You can reference materials from the same project to give AI more context.

(1) Referencing Documents

Click the @ button to select documents to reference.

In AI Chat, you can ask questions while referencing multiple materials from the same project, such as:

  • drafts (documents)

  • Characters

  • Plot

By referencing previous chapters, the overall story structure, research materials, or world-building notes,

AI can better understand the context and help maintain consistent scenes and character development.

You can quickly select recently opened documents,

or search to find and add other documents from the project.

<Example: Asking a question while referencing>

(2) Referencing Selected Text

Instead of referencing an entire document, you can select specific text and send only that portion to AI.

This allows AI to give more focused and accurate responses.

  1. Select the part you want within the document and click Add to Chat

  2. Once the selected text appears in the AI chat window, ask your question based on that context

Choosing a Mode

You can choose between Expert Mode and Basic Mode, depending on the type of help you need.

  • Basic Mode is suitable for drafting, organizing ideas, and quick questions during writing.

    • AI usage per request
      - Free Plan: 3–25 credits
      - Pro Plan: Unlimited

  • Expert Mode uses Novela’s smartest AI model and is ideal for more complex creative tasks.

    • AI usage per request 5–50 credits

* Usage for some features is based on text length, while others use a fixed credit rate.

Web Search Feature

Within AI Chat, you can search the web directly to support your research.

This is useful for checking information related to settings, world-building, professions, or time periods.

  1. Click the Web Search button at the bottom of the AI chat window.

* Using Web Search consumes an additional 20-40 credits.

2. Enter Your Question or Request
e.g.

  • Explain the atmosphere and cost of living in NY in the 1980s

  • What is the real procedure detectives follow when interrogating a suspect?

When Should You Use Web Search?

  • When you want to verify the accuracy of professional knowledge (jobs, systems, laws, medicine, military, investigations, etc.)

  • When you want to naturally incorporate real cities, historical periods, or events into your story

  • When you’re wondering, “Is this expression actually used?” or “How would people usually behave in this situation?”

  • When you want to design dialogue or episodes that reflect current trends, technology, or social media culture
