Are you new to Novela?
This article introduces how to create a new project, start writing, and use Novela’s core features. With just a few minutes of reading, you’ll be able to use the basic functions with confidence.
1. Create a New Project
From the Home screen, click the + New Project button to begin a story.
New Project: Start from a blank page and write your story from scratch.
Template: Choose a template to quickly learn Novela’s features and begin writing immediately.
2. Understand Your Workspace
A Novela project includes three main sections: Documents, Characters, and Plot—all designed to help you write more efficiently.
① Documents
This is where you write and manage your draft. You can also organize research materials and reference notes. Basic writing tasks happen here.
② Characters
The Characters tab lets you organize people in your story. Enter names, traits, backgrounds, and more so you stay consistent even in complex narratives.
③ Plot
The Plot section lets you visualize and adjust your story flow. You can arrange events in order and clarify your overall structure.
These three sections work together to support a structured writing experience.
You can also access features like search, trash, and settings from the sidebar.
3. Start Writing
In the Documents tab, click the + button to create a new document or folder.
You can drag and drop to organize documents and folders, which makes managing your drafts and reference materials easier.
Your work is saved automatically—no need for a manual save button.
At the top of the document, you’ll find useful writing tools such as:
Document Settings – Customize your writing environment.
Split View – View multiple items (e.g., characters or plot) without switching screens.
4. Working with Characters and Plot
Novela helps you manage Characters and Plot so you can organize your story as you write.
In the Characters tab, you can enter anything from simple names and descriptions to deeper details like personality, background, and relationships. This makes it easier to maintain consistency in your story.
In the Plot section, you can visually map out key events and sequence your narrative. This helps you clearly see the overall flow and structure of your story.
5. Continue Writing Across Devices
Novela is web-based, but you’re not limited to a single device. Because projects are saved in the cloud, you can write seamlessly from anywhere.
Install the desktop app for a comfortable writing environment.
You can also use Novela in a browser on mobile or tablet (iOS and Android).
Whether you’re on your computer at home or on your phone while out and about, your work stays synced and accessible.
