Event Overview Report: Horizontal vs Vertical CSV

Both the Horizontal and Vertical Event Overview exports pull from the same source data. However, they are formatted differently, which can make them appear inconsistent.

In particular, you may notice that the Vertical file contains more detailed shift data, while the Horizontal file presents a more simplified view.

Key Difference in Structure

Horizontal Format (Simplified View)

The horizontal file presents event data in a single-row format per event, with one combined “Shift” field.

Fields included:

  • Date

  • Name

  • Event ID

  • Department

  • Venue

  • Client

  • Event Time

  • Guest Count

  • Address

  • Uniform

  • Admin Notes

  • Salesperson

  • Staff Totals

  • Shift

👉 Best for: quick viewing and sharing a high-level summary of events

Vertical Format (Detailed View)

The vertical file presents event data in a more detailed structure, especially for shifts.

Fields included:

  • Date

  • Name

  • Event ID

  • Department

  • Venue

  • Client

  • Event Time

  • Guest Count

  • Address

  • Uniform

  • Admin Notes

  • Salesperson

  • Staff Totals

  • Shift 1

  • Shift 2

  • Shift 3

👉 Best for: reviewing shift-level details and performing deeper analysis

Key Data Differences

While most fields are the same across both files, the main difference is how shift data is displayed:

➤ Horizontal File

  • Uses a single “Shift” column

  • Shift information may be combined or summarized

➤ Vertical File

  • Breaks shifts into multiple columns:

    • Shift 1

    • Shift 2

    • Shift 3

  • Provides more granular visibility per shift

⚠️ Why One File Looks Like It Has More Data

The Vertical file may appear to have more data, but this is because:

  • Shift details are split into multiple fields

  • Data is presented in a more expanded format

The Horizontal file is not missing data—it simply:

  • Combines shift information into a single field

  • Prioritizes readability over detail

Summary

  • Both files pull from the same source data

  • The difference is in how the data is displayed

  • Horizontal = simplified, compact view

  • Vertical = detailed, shift-level breakdown
