Introduction
Nowsta allows you to add instructions for workers from both the Weekly View and Event Calendar. However, instructions added in these two areas are applied differently, so itâs important to understand when instructions are specific to one worker versus shared with everyone assigned to a shift.
Overview
Weekly View: Instructions are specific to an individual worker and shift.
Event Calendar: Instructions are tied to the shift and apply to all workers assigned to it.
This means that instructions added in the Weekly View will not appear as updates to the shift-level instructions in the Event Calendar.
How to Add Individual Worker Instructions
Use the Weekly View when you need to provide instructions that apply only to a specific worker.
Open the Weekly View.
Locate the worker and shift you want to update.
Add or edit the worker instructions.
Save your changes.
The instructions will be specific to that worker and shift. Other workers assigned to the same shift will not receive these individual instructions.
What the Worker Sees
Individual instructions added through the Weekly View will appear in that worker's Nowsta app under the Instructions section. The worker will see the general event instructions first, followed by the additional instructions entered specifically for them.
For clarity, consider labeling individual instructions with the worker's name, such as:
Additional Instructions for [Worker's Name]:
This can help distinguish personalized instructions from general event instructions.
How to Add Shift-Wide Instructions
Use the Event Calendar when you want instructions to apply to everyone assigned to a particular shift.
Open the Event Calendar.
Select the shift you want to update.
Add or edit the shift instructions.
Save your changes.
These instructions are tied to the shift itself, so all workers assigned to that shift will receive the same instructions.
Important Notes
Changes made to worker instructions in the Weekly View are worker-specific.
Changes made to instructions in the Event Calendar are shift-wide.
Weekly View instructions will not appear as changes to the shift instructions in the Event Calendar.
Individual Weekly View instructions will still appear in the assigned worker's Nowsta app.
Use the Weekly View for personalized instructions and the Event Calendar for instructions that should apply to everyone assigned to the shift.
