The Observations nugit tells you about the relative, top, and cumulative performance of individual metrics in your datasources. Use this nugit to summarise relationships between key metrics and dimensions.

For example, the metric Media Spend grouped by the dimension Channel Type generates observations like "Search accounted for 30% more Media Spend than Social".

Use the Observations nugit

  1. From a Story's edit screen, click the 'Data Summaries' drawer in the left toolbar. Click and drag 'Observations' into your Story.

  2. Click 'Setup data feed' or hover over the Observations nugit and click the pencil icon to open Observation settings.

  3. Select one metric for the observation. Grouping by one or more dimensions is optional. If you also select a filter, the nugit-level filter will override the global filter. (To learn about filters, see Setting filters for your Stories.) Click 'Apply'.

  4. Depending on the metric and dimensions you chose, you may be able to choose an observation type. These are: 'Single Metric Observation with Dimension(s)', 'Single Metric Observation with Driver', 'Top Single Metric Observation', and 'Top Cluster Metric Observation'. Select a type and click 'Apply'.

  5. Click on 'Enter title here' to type a header for the observation. If you do not enter a title, the observation will appear in view mode without a title.

  6. If you want to add an image beside an observation, click the camera icon to upload an image.

  7. To add another Observation, click '+ Add another observation'.

You can add and edit titles in an Observations nugit, but the observation text is automatically generated. Other nugits support 'Manual Text' to replace automated observations. The Key Metrics nugit also supports 'Custom Observations', which lets you write statements that are automatically filled in with values of selected metrics.

TOP TIPS:

  • Questions can make good titles - they help viewers quickly grasp your Story's scope and purpose. Try putting an Observations nugit with titles like "Which campaign had the most clicks?" or "How was the budget spent?" at the start of your Story, then adding other nugits to explore data in detail.
