Writing Prompts for your Nugit Narratives can be tricky at first, so here are some tips you can use to write Prompts that can successfully generate the insights that you are looking for.

Best Practice for Writing Prompts

  1. Be specific about the type of analysis that you want to generate

A prompt that says "Provide a summary of this data" is not specific in terms of length and content, so it may return a lot more data than you need.

Limit this by adding qualifying words in the prompt.

    Try using:

Provide a summary of this data in 3 short bullet points.

    or

Provide a summary of this data in 50 words or less.

  2. Describe how you would like it to be structured

Give the insights form by using headlines and sub-text

    Instead of writing:

Provide a summary of this data formatted using a Headline and then 3 short bullet points.

Try qualifying the type of analysis further to get more specific insights:

Analyse this data and find insights that might have gone unnoticed.
Return the response as a Headline and then 3 short bullet points.

  3. Qualify the audience

Describing who the intended audience is shapes the narrative further.

    Try prompts like this:

Analyse this data and find insights that might have gone unnoticed.
Return the response as a Headline and then 3 short bullet points suitable for the Client.

    or this:

Write a brief analysis on the trend of data in this chart.
Ensure that the response is written for a layman reader to understand.

Other Tips & Tricks

Here are additional tips that we've discovered during our intensive testing, that can help you make the most of this feature:

  1. For recurring or ongoing reports, refrain from using period-specific prompts

If you have a Monthly Search Performance Story that uses Nugit Narratives, avoid adding period-specific keywords like the actual month or date, so that your prompts will still be able to generate insights when the dates change.

    i.e. Instead of using:

Analyse the trend of the data in this chart for June and generate insights in 30 words or less.

Remove the phrase “for June” to make it period-agnostic.

  2. Provide additional context to improve the analysis generated

Providing a background of the context within the prompt helps to ensure that additional factors are considered to provide a more relevant response. i.e.

Context: I work at a digital media agency and am preparing analysis for the clients quarterly media review.

Please write a headline and three supporting bullet points using insights from this dataset.

Context: This campaign happened during Singapore’s GSS period.

Please write a headline and three supporting insights on the campaign performance. Look into the correlation between the campaign performance and the current GSS events, if any.
If there is no correlation, do not include this in your analysis.

  3. Control the output more precisely by adding specific phrases

If you want the insights to be worded in a specific way, adding specific phrases that need to be included in the generated insights will help. i.e.

Provide a summary of this data in a headline and 3 short bullet points. The headline should start with “Monthly Paid Social Results"

  4. Change the style and tone of the response

Depending on your data story you’re working on, you can add specific keywords to your prompt that can modify the style and tone of the narrative. Make sure, of course, that the style and tone works for your intended audience. i.e.

Provide a brief performance overview for the report, highlighting 2 campaign wins and 1 area of improvement. Write this in a fun and quirky tone that fits the client’s brand and image.

Please write an introduction for the Client’s Performance Update.

Structure this in the following way:
    - Write a headline using a key insight from the data.
    - Write 2 or 3 sentences below this with additional insights.
    - Finish by asking the reader to enjoy the report and insights.

Using Nugit Narratives takes practice, but once you have found the style of prompts that work best for you, adding automated insights and narrative into your stories will be a breeze.
