SELF-TAPE INSTRUCTIONS

Location/Lighting/Sound:

1. Avoid bright windows or reflective surfaces in the background.

2. Stand or sit a few feet away from your background or the wall behind you to avoid shadows.

3. If your room has plenty of daylight or you sit facing a window, you may not need additional lighting. It is important to have your light source in front of you. Find your light.

4. When setting up lights, try to utilize a three-point lighting setup. (Photo below).

5. Overhead household lighting without front light should be avoided as it may cast shadows on your face.

6. Try not to move too much when filming. Lighting will automatically adjust if you move and will distort the quality of the recording.

7. Try to limit any noises when filming. Close windows to limit street noise, turn off air conditioners and ask anyone in the room to remain still and quiet.

Filming

1. Back in the camera settings tab, in the same menu under “Formats” please select “Most Compatible” and not “High Efficiency.”

2. Make sure the cell phone is horizontal (landscape mode).

3. Make sure your cell phone is at the height of your face. It is best to film yourself with a tripod or iPhone/Android holder.

4. If possible, film yourself with the camera lens on the back of the phone. Not in “selfie” mode. This will give you a higher quality recording. If that is not feasible, “selfie” mode will do.

4. Have someone check your framing. If this is not possible, you can use a mirror to see the reflection of your framing on the phone screen or take a test video.
