👟Walk Through

Adding holds while you are building your seating chart is easy! You can build them in to your seating chart before you publish so whenever you reuse said seating chart, you do not need to readd holds again. This is great for theaters that need to:

  • Designate ADA seating for all their events

  • Have the same Box Office Holds for each event

  • Have the same seat blocked for all their events

Double click on the seat you would like to add a hold to. It will highlight in green.

In the seat settings menu that appears, click on your desired hold.

  • Selecting "Wheelchair Accessible" will turn your seat blue (above, seat A2 is marked as accessible). It will appear blue on the seating chart for your patrons when they go to make their purchase.

  • Selecting "Block" will turn the seat black (above, seat B3 is blocked). It will not be purchasable.

  • Selecting "Box Office Only" will turn the seat red (above, seat C4 is a box office hold). This means it is not purchasable online, and only able to be processed by one of your OTS users.

🎭Noteworthy: After reading this article, you will be able to add Box Office Holds to an unpublished seating chart.

🎓 Recap Adding Box Office Holds to a Seating Chart

This article walks you through how to add Box Office holds to your seating chart in On The Stage. By double-clicking a specific seat, you can open the Seat Settings menu and apply one of three hold types—Wheelchair Accessible (blue), Block (black), or Box Office Only (red). These designations appear in unpublished charts, and once saved, they persist whenever the chart is reused, eliminating the need to reapply holds for each event.

🚀 Best Practices for Box Office Holds in Seating Charts

  1. Consistently mark ADA seats - Identify wheelchair-accessible seats clearly so every performance includes accessible options, ensuring compliance and patron comfort.

  2. 🚫 Block irrelevant or obstructed seats - Use the Block option to remove seats from availability when they’re obstructed, under maintenance, or otherwise unsuitable for sale.

  3. 🕒 Embed holds ahead of time - Configure holds in your seating chart before publishing, so recurring events inherit these settings automatically.

  4. 💾 Save before reusing the chart - After adding holds, always save your seating chart—especially if it’ll be reused—to ensure hold settings remain intact across all performances.
