At this time, Climate First Bank, Powered by OneEthos, does not provide financing for solar pole barn projects.
A solar pole barn refers to a post-frame building or structure—typically used for storage, agricultural purposes, workshops, or equipment housing—that has solar panels installed on the roof or integrated into the structure as a standalone solar array. These types of projects are generally classified as accessory or secondary structures rather than primary residential or commercial buildings.
If an elevated rack is being treated/permited as a pole barn / accessory structure, it falls into the “solar pole barn / standalone structure” category and is not eligible for Climate First Bank and OneEthos financing under current program rules.
Current Lending Limitation
We do not offer loan products for solar installations that are mounted on pole barns, detached barns, sheds, or other secondary/agricultural structures.
Our financing programs are designed for primary residential or commercial properties where the solar system directly offsets the energy usage of the permitted main structure.
Detached or new-build solar structures, including solar pole barns, are not eligible for funding under our current program guidelines.
Eligible Project Types
To clarify, we can finance solar systems installed on:
Primary residential homes
Primary commercial buildings
Rooftops of the main electrical service structure
Ground mounts tied directly to the primary structure with proper permitting and utility interconnection
Carports
Pergolas
Why Pole Barn Solar Is Not Eligible
Solar pole barns are typically considered:
Accessory buildings, not primary service structures
Often not connected as a permitted primary dwelling or commercial load
May fall under different permitting, utility categorization, and collateral requirements, which fall outside our underwriting scope at this time
If your customer is considering a solar pole barn-style installation and would like financing, you may explore converting the project to an eligible ground-mount tied to the main electrical service or roof-mount on the primary structure, if applicable.
