What is a global section?

A global section is a centrally managed section that you can reuse on multiple pages. Changes that you make to this section are automatically applied to all pages where the section is integrated.

In other words, you only update the section once and the adjustments take effect immediately on all pages on which it is used. This saves time and ensures a consistent design across your entire website.

Popular use cases

Typical examples of sections that are often set up as global sections are the footer and the menu. These elements remain consistent on all pages on which they are integrated.

However, many other sections also benefit from this function. These include call-to-action areas with a consistent design and content, testimonials, product sections or other sections that you want to reuse regularly.

The flexibility of creating global sections allows you to define any desired section as a global section without restrictions.

Creating a global section

You do not need to create new global sections. Instead, convert existing sections into global sections.

Move the mouse pointer over the desired section and click on three dots in the top right-hand corner. Then select the option “Convert to global section”. This makes the section global and can be used on multiple pages.

🎉 Your section is now set up as a global section 🎉

Applying global sections

You can find your global section in the list of sections under the category “Global sections”. This category can be found in the sidebar if you want to add a new section.

Apply global sections

You can now apply your global sections from the list anywhere in the project.

Once added, these sections are clearly visible, with a darker display and an “Edit global sections” button above them.

You can now start editing the global sections. Once you have made your changes, you do not need to save anything else - the changes will be applied automatically.

⚠️ Important: If you make changes to a global section and publish (or republish) a page containing the section, the changes will automatically live everywhere the section is added, even if it is a different page.

The “scroll function” with global sections

The global sections are not suitable for using the scroll function with “normal” sections. To ensure that scrolling works properly, both the section being scrolled from and the target section must be either global or non-global.

Global sections are identical on all pages. And if you are on another page than the one where you added the scroll function, it is not possible to scroll to said section on the other page.

You would therefore have to convert the section into a normal section, please. Or convert the target section into a global one. However, the global section should then be created in the page where the global section was originally created.

🎬 In this video, we show an example of how to set the scroll function in a global menu and use it on several subpages:

Frequently asked questions and solutions

How can I change a global section back to a normal (non-global) section?

You have to move the mouse over the three dots, then click on “Unlink instance” and the section will return to normal.

Is it possible to rename global sections afterward?

You can always rename sections. Don't forget to click on Update at the bottom left afterward.
